Definition and validation of software complexity metrics for Ada

Chappell, Bryan L. 08 September 2012 (has links)
One of the major goals of software engineering is to control the development and maintenance of software products. With the growing use and importance of the Ada programming language, control over the software life cycle of Ada systems is becoming even more important. Software complexity metrics have been developed to aid software engineers in the design and development of software systems. This research defines metrics for Ada and uses an automated analysis tool to calculate them. This tool can be used by the software engineer to help maintain control over Ada software products. The validation of this tool was performed by analyzing a medium-sized commercial Ada product. The flow of control and flow of information through the use of Ada packages can be measured. The results show that software complexity metrics can be applied to Ada and produce meaningful results. / Master of Science

Development of a C-based simulation toolkit supporting discrete, continuous, and combined simulation

Khan, Fazal U. 13 February 2009 (has links)
In this research, a C-Based Simulation Toolkit (CBST) was developed. It supports discrete, continuous, and combined simulation. CBST is a group of simulation support functions written in the language C. CBST functions are used within a specific framework similar to that of GASP IV. It employs the event scheduling world view for next event selection. The Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg integration method is used to update state variables. The simulation framework of CBST, descriptions of CBST functions, and details of program construction using CBST are described. Four models are developed using CBST and the results are analyzed. CBST is compared to similar software packages, namely GASP IV, DISC, and CSIM. CBST has more flexibility than GASP IV because it is C-based and because it offers resource management functions. CBST supports continuous and combined simulation, whereas DISC and CSIM do not. / Master of Science

Data views for a programming environment

Robson, R. January 1988 (has links)
A data structure editor is presented for use in an integrated, fragment-based programming environment. This editor employs high resolution computer graphics to present the user with an iconic representation of the internal storage of a running program. / The editor allows the creation, modification, and deletion of data structures. These abilities allow the user to quickly sketch data structures with which to test incomplete program fragments, alleviating the need for driver routines. / To keep the user cognizant of events inside his program, a technique for automated display management is presented allowing the user to keep the most important objects in the viewport at all times. A history facility permits the user to see the former values of all variables. / Execution controls are provided allowing the user to control the scope and speed of execution, manipulate frames on the run-time stack, set breakpoints, and profile the executing algorithm.

Studies show relevant points about mental health care in the primary assistance. Some of these studies talk about the Family Health Program, but in special the job of the community health worker as an important and meaningful strategy in the assistance to the mental disordered patients and its family. However, the lack of preparation of these professionals in dealing with situations related to mental health is remarkable. Starting from this approach the following task comes from an interest in contributing to a reflection about the necessary support that the community workers need to cooperate in the assistance to the community patients with mental health problems. The study aims to understand the vision of the community workers about mental health problems. This is about the qualitative research methods composed by traditional research techniques of anthropology: dense ethnographic observation and depth interviews with 15 agents from a primary care unity of Praia Grande city in São Paulo. The field research was done from March to June 2011. The narratives of each agent interviewed make possible to identify the representation about mental health problems. A common aspect of the reports was noted, the trust relationship between the person with some mental problem and the community worker. Mental disorders are identified through the records of the family conversations held at home or in the clinic and through the relatives and neighbor¿s report. The concern about mental health problems is related to the bond established with her own family, with real cases in this activity area and with some courses made. The notion of mental health problem had many meanings, and there was a concern to not confuse them with crazy people. The reasons given mentioned an past or present event: stress, financial and life condition, alcohol abuse, drug abuse, family and genetic problems. Was concluded that community workers need information and specific training about mental health to face this situations in their daily work. Furthermore the relationship established between these people and the patients and their families to give subsidy to build interventions about mental health.
