Forsberg, Christoffer, Henningson, Lucas January 2015 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to gain understanding and analyze how Scandinavian firms’ relationships and networks can help them to create opportunities and reduce risks when conducting project business on African markets. Through this purpose we have created a main research questions that aims to answer: In order to answer the main research question a theoretical framework will be built on project business theories in order to understand project business and the opportunities and risks that are known to the project marketer. The Network Model and Uppsala Internationalization Model will also be applied to gain understanding of how to create opportunities and reduce risks through your networks and relationships. The research approach of this thesis will be an abductive approach and the gathering of primary data will be done through qualitative interviews using a multiple case study of two experienced project business actors. The gathered empirical data will interpreted with the help of the theoretical framework. The conclusion of this thesis indicates that project business risks and opportunities many times are interrelated to the same actors and that coordination and communication among the project marketer’s relationships and networks are vital to project business success on African markets. Onwards a theoretical gap and our theoretical contribution within the field will be presented, along with suggestions for further research and implications for practicing project business actors.

Sjögren Källqvist, Anna January 2002 (has links)

This licentiate thesis discusses management and control ofan industrial business that implements several projects at thesame time, a so-called multi-project business. The questionthat will be answered is: What distinguish the management of amulti-project business and what is crucial for the managementto focus on? The thesis is based on a case study at a companycalled Adtranz Signal in Sweden. Adtranz Signal develops, designs and delivers signal and safety systems for the railway. They are a perfect example of a modern company that operatesthe main part of their business with projects.

The discussion will take us beyond the single project andabove the project manager. This is necessary because projectmanagement literature, by tradition, emphasizes on theindividual project, and the complexity of problems when aproject is executed isolated from the ordinary business. Todaythere are only a few empirical and theoretical studies ofmulti-project businesses, especially those that focuses on howindustrial companies use projects and lead project work.

The scientific contribution in this thesis consists of twoparts. The first part is a profound empirical description ofhow management, control and realization of a multi-projectbusiness work. The second part is a further development of theliterature considering management problems in a multi-projectbusiness. Finally there are three important conclusions pointedout:

•It exists dependencies and connections between theprojects in the companys multi-project business•Thedifferent dependencies can be categorized•Thedependencies and connections are important and must be handledsince they effect the management of the multi-projectbusiness

Keywords:Management and control of a project business, industrial projects, multi-project business, multi-projectenvironment, project-based company, project management

It's fun to stay at the (Af)CFTA : A qualitative study of the AfCFTA's impact on manufacturing SMEs in Kenya.

Almius Cederstav, Axel, Djerf, Rasmus January 2021 (has links)
In the recent couple of years, African countries have conducted a free tradeagreement which will affect the whole African continent. Providing the largestfree trade agreement in history so far in terms of participating countries.AfCFTA provides new conditions and enhancement, aiming for Africa tobecome one single market and boosting intra-African trade. Countries such asKenya, has during recent years made changes and reforms which has enhancedits business environment for companies operating there. In addition, this thesisaims to investigate how the new free trade agreement is affecting KenyanSMEs in the manufacturing sector today, and how it will affect them in thefuture when the free trade agreement is fully implemented. To receive a deeperunderstanding about the subject, a qualitative method and an abductiveapproach have been conducted. Moreover, the theoretical framework derivesfrom internationalization theories commonly used and which benefits from theterms that the free trade agreement holds. The conceptual framework assumesthat international marketers experience different market prerequisites, thus theview of the internationalization process differs from one market to another. Therefore, our empirical findings derive from a multi-case study, whichinvestigate Kenyan manufacturing SMEs possibilities and difficulties tointernationalize on the African continent. The analysis presents the theoreticalframework and the empirical findings in the contrast and relation to each other. Finally, the conclusion chapter provides insights in opportunities anddifficulties still remaining for the AfCFTA to be fully implemented and forKenyan manufacturing SMEs to fully utilize the agreement. Also, limitationsand suggestions for future research is conducted in the chapter. The result ofthis research stipulates that there are still difficulties for Kenyanmanufacturing SMEs to utilize the agreement and that the agreement requirestime to provide a fully functional single market for Africa.
