Lean project management : An exploratory research into lean project management in the Swedish public and private sectorCoster, Coenraad Jorke, Van Wijk, Sjoerd January 2015 (has links)
This study looks at the differences in lean project management between projects done in the public sector and projects done in the private sector. The private sector consist of companies around Sweden, while municipalities are representing the public sector in this study. This study is based on the understanding that the lean philosophy can have advantages for the efficiency of project management, both for the private and the public sector, knowing that there are differences in the nature of these organizations. This thesis begins with an introduction that explains the theory that is important for this research, and that describes the research gap that has been found. The research gap is the basis for the research questions. After defining the research questions, an examination has been done on existing literature about the concepts of lean, project management, project managers, and lean project management. Prior research gives ideas about the challenges project managers encounter, and shows in what way lean can influence the efficiency of projects. As part of this qualitative research, and with an inductive approach, 12 semi-structured interviews have been conducted. During this interviews, project managers and persons with a connection to projects in the different organization were asked to describe projects in their organizations. This study is exploratory and has a cross-sectional design as the center of attention was on different organizations from both the private and the public sector in different parts of Sweden. In the analysis the results of the interviews are categorized and interpreted. The results show that projects are used in every organization, making use of, in almost every case, a project model which makes sure that different projects are run in similar ways. Although different organizations make use of the principles of lean, no organization is implementing the ideas completely. Major differences that have been found are differences in the background of the project manager, the level of standardization of projects, and differences in efficiency that in many situations are caused by legislation. It became clear that projects in the private sector are organized in a stricter way, with experienced project managers that follow project models strictly. In the public sector projects are mostly led by project managers that are interested in a certain project, and in those organizations project models are not followed strictly. As for lean projects, we have found no real evidence that any organization is currently having projects organized according to the lean principles. This can be expected however, seeing that lean project management is a generally unexplored part of the lean philosophy.

This paper presents a methodology for optimizing the distribution transformers project, considering the capitalized cost, employing concurrently in your project amorphous core and insulating vegetable oil. The use of amorphous core technology provides a significant reduction of the load losses as the use of the insulating vegetable oil which is a non-toxic fluid and rapidly biodegradable when in contact with the environment, it allows increasing the machine's operating temperature . The use of these two materials have provided considerable percentage improvements in efficiency and cost / power compared to conventional distribution transformers manufactured. The methodology is aimed to create and select designs that have a lower total cost, namely the sum of the transformer manufacturing cost capitalized cost of losses during the useful life envisaged for the equipment. In addition, it presents the case study of a 75 kVA designed distribution transformer and manufactured with amorphous core and insulating vegetable oil, routine employed optimization (developed in VBA Excel), the theoretical results obtained from the optimized design and the experimental results. / Este trabalho apresenta uma metodologia de otimização do projeto de transformadores de distribuição, considerando o custo capitalizado, que empregam concomitantemente em seu projeto núcleo amorfos e óleo vegetal isolante. O emprego da tecnologia de núcleo amorfo proporciona significativa redução das perdas em vazio, enquanto a utilização do óleo vegetal isolante, que é um fluído não tóxico e de rápida biodegradação quando em contato com o meio ambiente, possibilita o aumento da temperatura de operação do equipamento. A utilização desses dois materiais propiciaram melhoras percentuais consideráveis na eficiência e na relação custo/potência em comparação aos transformadores de distribuição convencionalmente fabricados. A metodologia visa criar e selecionar projetos que tenham um menor custo total, ou seja, a soma do custo de fabricação do transformador com o custo capitalizado das perdas durante a vida útil considerada para o equipamento.Além disso, é apresentado o estudo de caso de um transformador de distribuição de 75 kVA projetado e fabricado com o núcleo amorfo e óleo vegetal isolante, a rotina de otimização empregada (desenvolvida em VBA Excel), os resultados teóricos obtidos a partir do projeto otimizado e os resultados experimentais.

As the main goal of this thesis was determined a project proposal for optimization of educational trails in the selected area of the National park and Protected landscape area Šumava. Purpose of the project is the improvement of tourism by creating a new product. Based on the analysis the primary data was designed optimization project:Educational cycling route. The intention is to link the major attractions of the Šumava´s foothills Prachatice with cultural and natural attractions of Volary, which is situated in a protected landscape. The purpose of the project is to introduce visitors with the landscape and history and promote their awareness of environmental protection for a non-violent way. For the project was defined technical equipment, furniture routes. On the basis of delivering of tangible assets were determined the total costs.
