This is a qualitative study, developed from the theoretical and methodological framework of socio-historical psychology. The procedure of data collection has developed into a municipality in the state of São Paulo, were interviewed three psychologists working in the CRAS, on average, seven years ago. From the speech of the interviewees, the meaning units were identified for each of them, which included the affections and motivations related to performance in the CRAS and more specifically social participation. The analysis was to reference the laws and norms of Social Welfare and the work of psychologists in this public policy and studies that support the importance of stimulating the social participation of users in order to expand democracy and the transformation of reality. The results show that the psychologists understand that their work should not focus on individual stocks and should prioritize interventions in the collective. They believe that encourage social participation of users is one of the objectives of the work, but indicate the lack of autonomy in the planning and execution of activities as a factor limiting this direction / A presente pesquisa tem como objetivo analisar os sentidos, processos e espaços de participação social nas atividades desenvolvidas pelo psicólogo social no CRAS, considerando que ela é objetivo privilegiado da prática psicossocial. Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo, desenvolvido a partir do referencial teórico-metodológico da psicologia sócio-histórica. O procedimento de coletas de dados se desenvolveu em um município no interior do estado de São Paulo, onde foram entrevistadas três psicólogas que trabalham no CRAS, em média, há sete anos. A partir da fala das entrevistadas, foram identificadas as unidades de sentido para cada uma delas, o que incluiu os afetos e as motivações relacionadas à atuação no CRAS e, mais especificamente, à participação social. A análise teve como referência as leis e normatizações da Assistência Social e do trabalho do psicólogo nesta política pública, bem como estudos que sustentam a importância de estimular a participação social dos usuários com vistas à ampliação da democracia e à transformação da realidade. Os resultados mostram que as psicólogas compreendem que seu trabalho não deve ter foco em ações individuais e que devem priorizar intervenções no coletivo. Elas acreditam que estimular a participação social dos usuários faz parte dos objetivos do trabalho, porém indicam a falta de autonomia no planejamento e execução das atividades como um fator que limita esse direcionamento
