Časopis Čin v letech 1929-1939 / Čin magazine in years 1929-1939

Bokotejová, Helena January 2013 (has links)
The master's thesis Čin magazine in 1929 - 1939 deals with the cultural-political magazine Čin, which was issued in Prague in between the world wars. This left-wing and democratically orientated weekly, later a fortnightly, magazine focused on current cultural and public issues within former Czechoslovakia. The thesis aims to provide a thorough profile of what was an important and distinctive periodical in its time. Firstly, the thesis deals with outlining the notion of the magazine within the mass media, further on it describes the characteristics of the media landscape in the period of the first and second republic, where the printed media and their related area of problems are dealt with in detail. A subchapter on the cultural and political standing of Czechoslovakia in the 20s and 30s of the 20th century is also included, the focus is also on the position of the Čin magazine in the array of magazines of that time. The ensuing parts of the thesis already deal with the periodical itself, firstly in the period from 1929 to 1936, when the magazine was under the leadership of Marie Majerová, and secondly in the period of leadership of Bohumil Přikryl, that is from 1937 to 1939. These separate chapters inform about the publisher of the Čin magazine, the eponymous press and publishing cooperative of...

Nakladatelství Omega na českém knižním trhu a jeho překladová produkce. / The Omega publishing house in the Czech publishing landscape and its output of translated literature

Dudková, Anežka January 2021 (has links)
The Omega publishing house began its activities in 2013, when it started publishing outdated translations of classic literature, especially those that were no longer protected by copyright. This thesis analyses its activities, mostly during the 2013-2018 period: it focuses on the range of published titles and changes in the editorial approach to texts, with emphasis on classic literature. The publishing houses' activities are examined within the field of Czech publishing landscape and compared to the methods recommended in specialised literature, as well as to other publishers's activites. The thesis then presents a translation and textual analysis of three works (R. Kipling's Selected Short Stories, E. Brontë's Wuthering Heights and C. Dickens's Little Dorrit) published by Omega. A hypothesis about the overall strategy of the publishing house is then formulated based on the findings. Key words: Omega publishing house, sociology of translation, praxeology of translation, publishing policy, editorial work, translator status

It also tried to describe the relationship between "Mladý hlasatel" and the other newaspapers and magazines published by "Melantrich", to compile the c. v. of Břetislav Mencák, editor of "Mladý hlasatel". At the same time it found and rebutted many mistakes and inaccuracies, which were unknown. It essentially made visual available this otherwise hard accessible magazine. This thesis would like to be a contribution to the history of "Mladý hlasatel", and to the history of Czech children's magazines and point to the neglected problem of a children's role and potentialities during the Czechoslovak crisis 1938.

During the research project "The situation of literary translation in Czech society after 1945", which was initiated by the Institute of Translation studies of the Faculty of Arts of Charles University and undertaken between 2008 and 2011, nearly thirty interviews were conducted with important Czech translators of the post-war generation. The second part confronts objective historical facts with subjective memory - information obtained through the conducted interviews. The third part expands the corpus with two further sets of interviews. These are introduced by a short depiction of the presented narrators and followed by an editorial note. In the summary the paper points out and evaluates the results gained by the present research, including the newly collected material.
