A computer program analysing transients in multistage pumping systems

Transient pressures subsequent to simultaneous power failure at all pumps of a multistage pumping system are analysed. Distributing pumping stations along a pipeline, rather than placing all of the required pumps within one pumping station, significantly reduces transient pressure fluctuations within the system. A computer program using the FORTRAN language is developed to analyse multistage pumping systems, with appropriate surge controls, in the event of such a power failure. These surge controls consist of valves, vacuum breakers, air chambers and reservoirs; with other controls easily added as they develop. Boundary conditions determining system controls are not developed as a part of this thesis, but are described for completeness. By comparing the maximum and minimum transient pressures occurring within- single stage and multistage systems, the premise that multistage systems give significantly lower transient pressures than single stage systems is substantiated. This reduction in transient pressures allows for possible savings in costs, as pipe wall thicknesses and the size of large, expensive control structures may be reduced. The flooded meadows of the Pamarys region permanently are an object of increased attention and require new solutions using grasslands for farming and sustainable development of the area. During the last decade's new environmental regulations has more tighten restrictions for farming and especially in protected areas. Nemunas delta Regional Park is one of the biggest protected areas in this region. The status of protected area fundamentally changed the farming conditions in polder systems. Summer polders (these are flooded in spring time) are the main chain in the plenty of problems, and proper farming and use of polder systems not only decrease expenses for maintenance, but also essentially improve ecological situation of the ecosystem in such areas. The most important problem still remains fish killing in pumping stations of polder systems. More the 10 years before the Sysa pumping station was modernized installing here screw pumps. It was experimental pumping station for several years ad latter the same pumps were installed in more three pumping stations. Today we have already 14 years experience and can do some conclusions about the use of screw pumps. The history of screw pumps, some practical experiments, analysis of collected data in three different polder systems (with screw pumps and conventional pumps) a comprised in this final Msc. degree work.

UAB „Daugų žuvis" tvenkiniai įrengti 1968-1969 m., jų bendras plotas 594 ha, apie 99 ha tvenkinių ploto intensyviai žuvininkystei nenaudojami. Tvenkiniams vanduo imamas iš Dusmenos ir Varėnės upių, vandeniui tiekti įrengtos dvi siurblinės. Nuo siurblinių pastatymo yra praėję apie 40 metų, todėl siurbliai, jų varikliai ir pagalbiniai įrengimai yra susidėvėję fiziškai, technologiškai bei morališkai pasenę. Žuvininkystės įmonės vadovai norėdami išlaikyti įmonę konkurencinėje rinkoje, turėtų atsižvelgti į kylančias problemas energetikos sektoriuje, ir ieškoti galimybių sumažinti siurblinių eksploatacijos išlaidas minimaliai rekonstruojant siurblines ir atnaujinant reikalingą siurblinių įranga. Baigiamajame darbe yra nustatomi siurblinių hidrauliniai parametrai. Daugiakriterinės analizės pagalba, naudojant tarptautinės atominės energijos agentūros laisvai platinamą programinę įrangą – DAM, palyginami keli siurblių pakeitimo variantai ir iš jų sąlyginai išrinkti optimaliausi variantai. Daugų žuvininkystės įmonės tvenkinių hidrotechnikos statinius sudaro tvenkinių dambos, vandens įleistuvai, išleistuvai, vandens atitekėjimo, nutekėjimo vamzdynai ir kanalai, skydų/šandorų kėlimo mechanizmai, žuvų išgaudymo duobės ir pan. Kadangi nuo tvenkinių įrengimo laiko jau praėję apie 40 metų, tai betoniniai/gelžbetoniniai tvenkinių hidrotechnikos statiniai (įleistuvai, išleistuvai, vamzdynai, žuvų išgaudymo duobės) yra gerokai susidėvėję. [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / The purpose of this work is to evaluate technical state of Dusmena and Varene pumping stations hydro-technical and energetic equipment, the usability and expediency of this equipment in the conditions of market economics. The purpose of this work is also to choose the most suitable variants of replacement of pumping stations main units and auxiliary mechanisms by new ones. Technical state of fishponds hydraulic structures (inlet, outflow, fish catch hole elements) and overgrow of fishpond areas with aquatic plants are analyzed in the paper too. The Dusmena pumping station was built in 1969 and there are three vertical axial 02-42 type pumps. The pumping station on Varene River was built in a same year and reconstructed in 1983. There are two duplex inflowing horizontal centrifugal D 1250/14 type pumps. Daugai Fishery enterprise pumping stations were built more than 40 years ago, so the pumps, their engines and auxiliary mechanisms of these pumping stations are shabby, physically and technologically old. The pumping stations are very important element of fishponds, because the cost of fishery productions belongs on pumping station rational work. The reconstruction of the pumping station in Varene is necessary in the case of the use of Intersigma or Flygt pumps, because these pumps have negative suction head, as existing pumps are with positive suction head in Varene pumping station. Magistrantūros baigiamojo darbo tema – Raseinių žuvininkystės įmonės Keidžių siurblinės rekonstrukcijos studija. Keidžių siurblinė yra Raseinių rajone. Raseinių žuvininkystės pilnasisteminis ūkis buvo įrengtas sovietiniu laikotarpiu. Keidžių siurblinė buvo pastatyta 1979 metais, kai energetinių išteklių kainos neatitiko jų realios vertės. Kadangi nuo Keidžių siurblinės pastatymo praėjo 30 metų, todėl joje esanti įranga: darbo siurbliai, jų varikliai, pagalbiniai įrenginiai yra gerokai susidėvėję, fiziškai ir technologiškai pasenę. Žuvininkystės įmonė turėtų ieškoti galimybių siurblių įrangai atnaujinti, pakeisti ją naujesne, ekonomiškesne, mažiau sunaudojančia elektros energijos. Šiuo metu Keidžių siurblinės eksploatacijos išlaidos yra palyginti didelės ir tai atsiliepia įmonės produkcijos savikainai. Siurbliams parinkti buvo kreiptasi į organizacijas, kurios yra siurblius gaminančių firmų Flygt, Grundfos, bulgarų - rusų bei čekų gamybos Intersigma atstovai Lietuvoje. LŽŪU hidrotechnikos katedra nuo 1991 m. bendrauja su Flygt firmos atstovais Lietuvoje, turi sukaupusi pakankamai daug žinių apie šios firmos produkciją. Daugiakriterinės analizės pagalba, naudojant tarptautinės atominės energijos agentūros laisvai platinamą programinę įrangą – DAM, buvo palyginti keli siurblių pakeitimo variantai ir iš jų sąlyginai išrinktas optimaliausias. Keidžių siurblinėje paprasčiausia ir racionaliausia būtų pastatyti naujus bulgarų - rusų gamybos 900D30 siurblius, tam reikėtų tik... The Keidžių pumping station is in Raseiniai region. Keidžių pumping station was built in 1979. 30 years passed after this station construction, so the pumps, their engines and auxiliary mechanisms of this pumping station are shabby, physically and technologically old. The pumping stations are very important element of fishery ponds, because the cost prise of fishery productions belongs on pumping station rational work. It was interviewed the firms, which sell pumps in Lithuania, and noticed that it is possible to use these pumps to replace existing old pumps: Swedish Flygt firm submersible centrifugal C series pumps, Danish Grundfos firm submersible centrifugal S series pumps, Bulgarian - Russian D type centrifugal pumps and Czech Intersigma pumps. When the technical parametres and prices were analysed, it was dermined that the most rational way is to use the cheapest Bulgarian - Russian D type pumps. The reconstruction of the pumping station is necessary in the case of the use of Grundfos or Flygt pumps, because these pumps have negative suction head, as existing pumps are with positive suction head in Keidžių pumping station. If Grunfos or Flygt pumps would be installed, vacuum pumps were not necessary in this case. Este trabalho avalia a aplicação de inversores de freqüência realizada em estações elevatórias de água tratada da cidade de São José dos Campos que são monitoradas pelo Centro de Controle Operacional da Sabesp. Foram estudadas as características técnicas de quatro sistemas de bombeamento que operam com velocidade variável. O trabalho apresenta uma proposta de metodologia para a seleção de inversores de freqüência, com base na metodologia recomendada pelo EUROPUMP e HYDRAULIC INSTITUTE (2004) aplicada em quatro sistemas da cidade de São José dos Campos. Essa proposta de metodologia foi executada através da avaliação seqüencial de um fluxograma e da análise gráfica das informações instantâneas e históricas dos parâmetros de vazão, pressão e freqüência de rotação, existentes no banco de dados dos servidores de supervisão e controle do Centro de Controle Operacional de São José dos Campos. Após a aplicação dessa metodologia, conclui-se que, a aplicação de inversores de freqüência nos sistemas estudados estava adequada e recomenda-se a sua aplicação em sistemas de bombeamento semelhantes. / The main purpose of this work is to evaluate the application of Variable Frequency Drives ? VFD, carried out in water pumping stations managed by SABESP ? Technical characteristics of four pumping systems were studied, mainly those operating with fixed or changeable speed. It proposes a new methodology for VFD selection, based on the methodology recommended by EUROPUMP and HYDRAULIC INSTITUTE (2004), used on the systems mentioned before. This proposal of methodology were done using instantaneous and historical information of flow, pressure and rotation frequency parameters stored on data base installed on supervision and control servers installed. After this application, we also concluded that the use of VFD on the evaluated systems was correct and through this we recommend its use on similar pumping systems.

Num passado não tão distante, os projetos dessas instalações eram superdimensionados e, na maioria das vezes, nunca chegavam a operar em sua plenitude. A operação de controle de vazão, através de uma válvula na saída da estação de bombeamento, sempre foi uma ação nociva a estrutura em todos os sentidos, além do desperdício de energia elétrica que esse tipo de operação provocava. Paralelamente, a energia elétrica se tornou muito dispendiosa, e a sua geração muito mais complicada com impactos cada vez maiores no meio ambiente. Em condições tão desfavoráveis, o inversor de freqüência se tornou peca importante na missão de racionalizar o uso da energia elétrica sem afetar a operação do sistema. Neste trabalho são estudadas duas instalações de bombeamento da cidade de Campinas ¿ SP, dotadas de inversores de freqüência, onde são comparadas operações com e sem o uso deste dispositivo, suas vantagens e desvantagens, possibilidades e limitações. Com o auxilio de três modelos matemático-computacionais, um que reproduziu uma das instalações, outro de auditoria energética e um terceiro de otimização, especialmente desenvolvidos para esse estudo, foi possível a simulação de cenários operacionais, buscando extrair a máxima eficiência do inversor e a conseqüente otimização do sistema como um todo. Ao final do trabalho são propostos critérios, resultantes do estudo desenvolvido, que podem servir como parâmetros quando da adoção de inversores de freqüência em sistema de bombeamento / Abstract: The pumping systems are frequently found in any process which involves transport of liquids, like the public water systems. In a recent past, these pumping systems plans were oversized and, frequently, did not work in their full potential. The flow regulated by throttling has always presented, in all senses, a harmful effect to the installation. Moreover, this kind of action has caused waste of electric energy. Along with that the cost of electric energy has been increasing and its production has created damages to the environment. Since we have so many negative conditions, the variable speed drive has become the most important part to rationalize the use of electric energy causing no affect on the operation of the system. This work studies two pump stations located in the city of Campinas, which are operated with variable speed drives. At these pumping stations, comparisons are made with and without the use of this equipment, considering its advantages and disadvantages, its possibilities and limitations. Three mathematicmodels were especially developed for this study, the first to reproduce one of the systems, the second to make an energetic audit and the third to optimize the results. Making use of these three models it was possible to simulate operational scenarios to reach the maximum efficiency from variable speed drive and the optimization of the system as a whole.
