A New Translocation, T(3;6)(q12;24) Associated With Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukaemia and Marrow Fibrosis

Krishnan, K., Sheldon, S. 01 January 1996 (has links)
This report describes a 75-year-old man with chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia (CMML) and marked marrow fibrosis associated with t(3;6)(q12;24). Although structural abnormalities of 3q occur in haematological neoplasia, this particular chromosomal translocation has not been previously described in CMML. Karyotypic abnormalities involving 3q and marrow fibrosis may affect prognosis in CMML.

Evaluating the effects of farm programs. Results from propensity score matching.

Pufahl, Andrea, Weiss, Christoph January 2007 (has links) (PDF)
The paper applies a non-parametric propensity score matching approach to evaluate the effects of two types of farm programs (agri-environment (AE) programs and the less favoured area (LFA) scheme) on input use and farm output of individual farms in Germany. The analysis reveals a positive and significant treatment effect of the LFA scheme for farm sales and the area under cultivation. Participants in AE schemes are found to significantly increase the area under cultivation (in particular grassland), resulting in a decrease of livestock densities. Furthermore, participation in AE programs significantly reduced the purchase of farm chemicals (fertilizer, pesticide). We also find substantial differences in the treatment effect between individual farms (heterogeneous treatment effects). Farms which can generate the largest benefit from the program are most likely to participate. (authors' abstract) / Series: Department of Economics Working Paper Series

On the intention-behaviour discrepancy. Empirical evidence from succession on farms in Finland.

Väre, Minna, Weiss, Christoph, Pietola, Kyösti January 2005 (has links) (PDF)
This study examines and compares farmers' succession plans and actual succession behaviour and finds that the farm operator's age and regional variables influence both. We also find a discrepancy between intention and actual behaviour which is significantly related to the farm operator's age. Whereas the likelihood of planned succession is overestimated significantly for younger farm operators, the opposite is observed once the farm operator's age exceeds 65 years. Therefore, stated plans have only a negligible value in predicting the observed behaviour and farm operator's statements on the timing of succession may not provide enough information on the grounds of designing structural policies in agriculture.
