This work deals with the concepts of ratio and proportion. We address historical facts related to these concepts and highlight the numbers pi (π) and phi(φ). We present the ratios and proportions and their interdisciplinarities in Physics, Geo- graphy, Chemistry and Biology and also demonstrate that these concepts can be used without the need to cling to a formula as the only means to obtain the solution. Besides, we show that, under certain conditions, the solution can only be obtained by using a formula.
