Psigososiale aspekte van persone met gesiggestremdheid binne die werkplek : 'n MaatskaplikewerkperspektiefJansen van Rensburg, Maria Elizabeth 05 April 2007 (has links)
The goal of this study was to explore the psychosocial aspects within the workplace of people with visual impairment, after mobility training at Optima College Pretoria. The objectives of this study were: To build up a theoretical framework by means of a literature study as well as consultation with experts on the psychosocial aspects of people with visual impairment within the workplace after mobility training at Optima College. To conduct an empirical study of the psychosocial aspects of people with visual impairment within the workplace after mobility training at Optima College. To come to conclusions and to make recommendations for improved adaptation of people with visual impairment within the workplace. This qualitative study endeavoured to answer the following research question: What are the psychosocial aspects experienced by people with visual impairment within the workplace and what are the viewpoints of supervisors and colleagues in this regard? By answering this question, the researcher aimed to document these experiences to understand the phenomenon and to make recommendations for improved adaptation within the workplace. Non-probability sampling methods were used to select the five respondents. Data was gathered by conducting interviews, using semi-structured interview schedules with five people with visual impairment, as well as a supervisor and colleague for each of the five respondents. These interviews were taped and transcribed and subsequently analysed, extracting themes as well as sub-themes. The study was feasible, as it was within the financial and practical means of the researcher. She had access to the target group and she had permission from Optima College to conduct the study, using their resources, clients and data. Five main themes emerged from the data analysis, namely: 1.The adaptation at Optima College and the experience of the training 2.Adaptation at the workplace and investments made by the employers 3.Psychosocial aspects experienced within the workplace as well as in the community 4.The experiences of the supervisor of the person with visual impairment 5.The experiences of the colleague of the person with visual impairment. From the research findings, recommendations were made on micro, macro and meso-levels. On micro-level, people with visual impairment can play a role by telling supervisors and colleagues about their needs and problems. On macro-level, recent employers of people with visual impairment can motivate other employers to employ people with visual impairment. When stigmatization as well as prejudices are removed from society, employers will be more motivated to employ people with visual impairment. On meso-level, Optima College, the South African National Council for the Blind, as well as public media, can play a leading role in publishing positive articles regarding people with visual impairment in the workplace. Optima College must continue with the training of people with visual impairment. / Dissertation (MSD (Health Care))--University of Pretoria, 2006. / Social Work and Criminology / Unrestricted

The Diploma Thesis deals with the topic of Factors influencing the unsuccessful inclusion of children from children's homes into their independent life. At the theoretical level existing knowledge concerning institutional education are summarized as well as the knowledge about factors influencing the integration process of children from children's homes into their independent life. The work aims to find and to name the factors which according to the opinion of children themselves caused them to be unsuccessful in the entering of the independent life. Another aim of the fork is to find out whether it is possible to propose any recommendations leading to elimination of the factors. The aims of the work were achieved through a qualitative research survey in which seven children told their life story. They left Children's home Dolní Počernice more than a year ago. At the same time their entry into the independent life could be qualified as unsuccessful according to the chosen criteria. It was find out that the factors influencing the unsuccessful inclusion of children from Children's homes into the independent life according to the children themselves include - return to their original families, lack of funds, absence of employment and housing and lack of staff support. Based on these findings,...

In today's society machine learning is a growing method to solve certain problems faced by companies worldwide. Many companies have mountains of stored data that are not being utilised. This data can be used in numerous ways to make improvements within these companies. One of the ways is machine learning, it is used more and more these days to generate recommendations. This project's purpose is to make a proof of concept of a machine learning model capable of giving recommendations based on historical data. This proof of concept will serve as guidelines to Centrala Studiestödsnämnden (CSN) in how they should approach machine learning as an alternative to manual recommendations. This is achieved by determining what data is to be used, understanding the data selected and then picking an algorithm suitable for that data. Then the algorithms will be used to create machine learned models which will be tested in various ways to see which works best for the task at hand. Two models are created with different algorithms that both fit the purpose. The models are tested through practical and theoretical tests. The results show that the algorithms are similar in which predicted recommendations they give but have slight variation.

Personalized TV with Recommendations : Integrating Social NetworksShahan, Michel January 2008 (has links)
This master’s thesis concerns how to recommend multimedia content which a user might view – with some media player. It describes how a computer application (called a recommendation engine) can generate better recommendations for users based on using information available from social networks and the media selections made by others. This thesis gives an introduction to the area of “recommendations”, recommendation engines, and social networks. An overview of existing recommendation techniques suggests potential solutions to the problem of what recommendations to make to a given user. The thesis presents how social networks can be used to further enhance the users’ experience and describes the work that has been done to realize this recommendation system. An evaluation of the implemented solution is given. The thesis concludes with a summary of how recommendation engines and social network technologies can be used and suggests some future work. This thesis is of current interest since there is a tremendous quantity of content which is being offered in stores and via services on the web. A recommendation system makes it easier for users to find content which they find appropriate. Since social network communities are growing rapidly there has been an interest to use this information to get recommendations from friends. The results from the evaluation of the prototype recommendation system show how social networks which utilize trust systems might affect the recommendation which is given.

Analyst recommendations and abnormal returns : An event study on OMX Stockholm 30Salihu, Krenare, Flank Zetterström, Ludwig January 2021 (has links)
The main purpose of this study is to contribute to the previous literature by evaluating positive changes in analysts' consensus recommendations of the stocks listed in OMXS30. We analyze if new positive changes in consensus recommendations correspond with lower abnormal returns. By conducting an event study and performing a series of different statistical tests, we find that positive changes in analyst consensus provide a short lived negative mean abnormal return in certain cases. We argue that this implies that investors might interpret positive changes as a sell signal. Furthermore, we find some pieces of evidence to suggest that it may actually be changes in the mean target price rather than changes in recommendations that causes the movements in abnormal returns.

Health Disparities Among the Western, Central and Eastern Rural Regions of China After a Decade of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention ProgrammingZhang, Xi Fan, Tian, Xiang Yang, Cheng, Yu Lan, Feng, Zhan Chun, Wang, Liang, Southerland, Jodi 01 August 2015 (has links)
Health disparities between the western, central and eastern regions of rural China, and the impact of national health improvement policies and programming were assessed. A total of 400 counties were randomly sampled. ANOVA and Logistic regression modeling were employed to estimate differences in health outcomes and determinants. Significant differences were found between the western, central and eastern rural regions in community infrastructure and health outcomes. From 2000 to 2010, health indicators in rural China were improved significantly, and the infant mortality rate (IMR), maternal mortality rate (MMR) and under 5 mortality rate (U5MR) had fallen by 62.79%, 71.74% and 61.92%, respectively. Central rural China had the greatest decrease in IMR (65.05%); whereas, western rural China had the greatest reduction in MMR (72.99%) but smallest reduction in U5MR (57.36%). Despite these improvements, Logistic regression analysis showed regional differences in key health outcome indicators (odds ratios): IMR (central: 2.13; western: 5.31), U5MR (central: 2.25; western: 5.69), MMR (central: 1.94; western: 3.31), and prevalence of infectious diseases (central: 1.62; western: 3.58). The community infrastructure and health outcomes of the western and central rural regions of China have been improved markedly during the first decade of the 21st century. However, health disparities still exist across the three regions. National efforts to increase per capita income, community empowerment and mobilization, community infrastructure, capacity of rural health facilities, and health literacy would be effective policy options to attain health equity.
