Fabrication of volume holograms using sol-gel technology and its application to 3D profile measurement

A series of sol-gel based photopolymerizable silica glass for holographic storage have been synthesized via a facile chemical design in an effort to overcome the cracking problem incurred during the irradiation stage. The holographic composite material includes a low molecular weight polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) with end-capped hydroxyl groups, an epoxide-containing coupling agent, a photopolymerizable acrylate monomer, and the sol-gel-derived silica matrix. Inclusion of PDMS provides improved compression stress and strain and toughness over the original unmodified samples, without deterioration on the diffraction efficiency (£b). A plateau value of £b ~ 40 % can be found under a beam power of 5.02 mW. Correlation between the molecular weight of acrylate polymer and £b of the holographic composite material is described and the discrepancies analyzed. The premature saturation of polymerization in the holographic system is attributed to the retarded free radical polymerization within the silica matrix. Minor variation of £b with photoinitiator concentration is observed, indicating that only moderate molecular weight is required for a reasonably high £b. The crack-free mechanism is based on the chemical and physical interactions within the material system. We also investigated the pore size and volume effect for optical properties, especially in studies of diffraction efficiency. With mixing rubber additives, the pore characteristics change via measurement of BET technique. The results indicated that moderate pore size made high diffraction efficiency for porous matrix and some characterizations also were presented. On the other hand, the optical application of this recording medium was described via 3D projected fringes profilometry (PFP) measurement. We recorded coded pattern on medium by employing fiber devices as light source. Using endoscope as image-derived tool, we get double-projected fringe images on tiny object. By PFP technique, a performed retrieved image can be achieved.

The first topic of this thesis proposes a neural stimulation, recording and impedance measuring system for implantable applications. It includes a stimulation DAC, a instrumentation amplifier, an ADC, and a digital controller which decides the operation of each block according to the required functions. The function provided by the system include micro-stimulation, neural signal recording, or impedance measurement. The second topic is to describe a dual-OPA coil driver for SOC heat dissipation. It includes two class AB complementary output drivers which can drive an inductance load, such as micro motors and fans. It also discusses the feasibility of a bipolar transistor in CMOS process.

A Wide-range Integrated Bio-Signal Amplifier System

This thesis presents a bio-signal recording system with offset cancellation and a low power comparator. The recording of bio-signal requires high-gain amplification before recording, to match the input to the range of the analog to digital converter (ADC); interference could be a problem if it causes the amplifier to reach saturation, leaving the recording inoperable (i.e., blank) until it returns to its normal state. The proposed system can monitor the amplifier output, and reset the amplifier output to a point near the center of its dynamic range before the amplifier output leaves its dynamic range. The proposed system provides discrete compensation voltages to cancel the offset voltage, and thereby avoids the shortcomings of conventional filters. Furthermore, a low power and low offset voltage comparator for low current operation is proposed. It is suitable for the clock controller in a sampled bio-signal acquisition system. The measured current consumption of the comparator is less than 130 nA, and the offset voltage is 2 mV. The proposed recording system and comparator have been implemented in the TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) 0.35£gm 2P4M CMOS process technology to verify the simulation results as well as the correctness of the proposed architecture.

The musical mode : rock and Hollywood cinema

This project seeks to determine the extent to which rock music brought an end to the Hollywood film genre of the musical. It stresses the importance of rock and post-1960s popular music scholarship to film studies and vice-versa. Both objects of popular music inquiry remain relatively unexamined within film studies. But while the value of film studies to popular music scholarship has been much more widely acknowledged, much more work remains in these areas. Therefore, this project will look at the workings of rock ideology and how it impacted the development of the Hollywood musical. It will also examine recording technology and the ways in which it transformed both the film and music industries. The second half of this project is an extended analysis of how Hollywood films of the post-rock era (1970 onward) have reflected these changes. It theorizes that it was not so much the musical that “died” in this era as it was a particular kind of musical number – the Spontaneous Outburst of Song. The later chapters use the concept of mode as opposed to genre to examine how the pleasures offered by the musical of the classical Hollywood era remain available albeit in different guises and genres. Furthermore, these pleasures are capable of fostering the kinds of communities, if not utopias, that some scholars claim have died along with the classical Hollywood era. / text

The testing of RF equipment, multipath generation and downstream TM processing systems has been done in the past with varying levels of accuracy. In the past the techniques of checking TM equipment worked, but lacked realism that real TM transmissions provide. This paper describes the development of an IF recorder for range TM. We discuss the usage of a recorder with multiple channels, time correlation, channel skew capability, IF over IP capabilities and file management will allow repeatable, realistic testing of TM systems.
