The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of remineralizing agents on the susceptibility of enamel cleared by the coffee pigmentation during office bleaching. Fifty bovine incisors were selected and randomly assigned into 5 groups (n = 10) on the basis of remineralizing agents: G1 gel hydrogen peroxide to 35% (control group); G2, hydrogen peroxide gel and a 35% gel 2% neutral fluorine; G3, hydrogen peroxide gel and a 35% nanostructured calcium phosphate gel, G4, hydrogen peroxide gel and a 35% casein fosfopt?dia-phosphate and amorphous calcium folder; G5 hydrogen peroxide gel to 35% without mineralizing agent. All groups exception G1 (control group) were subjected to pigmentation soluble coffee according to the manufacturer's guidelines. The samples were immersed in coffee at temperature of 55? C, 1 time a day for 4 minutes. Color changes were performed by Easyshade spectrophotometer at CIE Lab method before and after 3 whitening sessions. Data were analyzed by analysis of variance ANOVA. The results showed statistically significant differences between the remineralizing substances for the parameters L *, a *, b * ?E (p <0.0001). The L * values for the group G5, and the b * for G2 and G5 groups differed from the control group. After the 3rd whitening session, Fluor's group (G2) and that without mineralizing agent (G5) showed ?E values less than the control group that did not undergo pigmentation. It was concluded that only the nanoclusters remineralizing agents Phosphopeptides Casein-Amorphous Calcium Phosphate and Calcium Amorphous phosphate were able to reduce the coffee interference whitening efficacy of hydrogen peroxide.

No. of bitstreams: 1 OtavioJPN.pdf: 2556695 bytes, checksum: 1b00cc54688530c66184271da837d877 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2008-07-31 / The objectives of this clinical study was to evaluate the use of the toothpaste with fluoride and without fluoride and the daily tooth brushing are effective in the reversion of the dental enamel conditioned by acid. Another objective of this clinical study was to evaluate if the positioning of orthodontic accessories with glass ionomer cement helps in the reversion of the dental enamel conditioned by acid, when compared to composed resin. One hundred and twenty teeth were selected with indication of extraction by orthodontic reasons. The 30 volunteers were divided, randomly, in two groups. A group used toothpaste without fluoride and the other with it. The teeth of the sample were shuffled, in each volunteer. The teeth were conditioned by the 37% orthophosphoric acid. One of the conditioned teeth stayed in the mouth and suffered action of the abrasion for the tooth brushing, in another teeth a stainless steel mesh protection was positioned with glass ionomer cement, in another tooth the screen was glued with composed resin, in a fourth tooth (the control) was only conditioned after the extractions, 60 days later. All the teeth were appraised through DIAGNOdent, MEVA and EDS. In the obtained data it was possible to observe that there were not statistic significant differences in any comparison, even in the group that did not have access to the fluoride in the toothpaste as in the other that had. According with the used methodology, it was possible to observe too that there was not statistic significant differences in any comparison, even in the group that had the stainless steel mesh positioned with glass ionomer cement as in the group that the stainless steel mesh was positioned with composed resin. However, it was observed that there was an improvement in the topography of the enamel in all the teeth. The accomplishment of this study was facilitated due to the participation of the researchers' of the health area (dentistry), materials engineer, physics and chemistry. The researchers were originating from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte and of the University of Queensland, in Australia. This interdisciplinary group was decisive in the accomplishment of the study. It can be concluded that the enamel tends to return to its initial aspect, even if the patient does not have access to fluoride. That is probably due the action of the abrasion for the tooth brushing and mastication. In spite of it not being significant, it is suggested that the conditioned enamel was more resistant to the abrasion in the group that had access to fluoride. It was also possible to conclude that the fluoride liberated by the glass ionomer was not enough to provide a significant difference in the enamel conditioned by the acid, when compared with the composed resin, even in the group that did not use fluoride in the toothpaste as in the group that used / O objetivo deste estudo foi de avaliar o uso do dentifr?cio com fl?or e sem fl?or e a escova??o di?ria na revers?o do esmalte dent?rio condicionado pelo ?cido.

Materials and Methods: Thirty samples of each composite resin were obtained: G1 (control): Z250; G2: Filtek Bulk-Fill (FTK); G3: Tetric N Ceram Bulk-Fill (TTC); G4: Aura Bulk-Fill (AUR). After 24 h, the samples were polished and then alternated by DES/RE solutions for 15 cycles of 24 h each at 37?C. Then, the samples were submitted to simulated toothbrushing. The Ra and Cn measurements were quantitatively analyzed in three stages: after polishing (Ra0 and Cn0), after pH cycles (Ra1 and Cn1) and after simulated toothbrushing (Ra2 and Cn2). Measurements on new samples submitted only to simulated toothbrushing were also performed (Ra* and Cn*). The Ra values were submitted to two-way ANOVA, followed by the Tukey?s test (?=0.05). The Kruskal-Wallis test followed by multiple comparisons was applied for Cn analysis. Surface topography and bacterial adhesion were observed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Results: Z250, FTK and TTC showed no significant change in Ra regardless of the treatment performed, except for AUR which obtained superior Ra at Ra2 (p <0.05). In the bacterial count, FTK differed from the others in Cn0 and Cn1. In Cn2 there was no difference between the composite resins. Only after Cn*, the Z250 differed from all other materials. SEM images showed cracking and exposure of fillers in Ra1, with detachment of the exposed fillers. Microcavities were observed in all composite resins in Ra2. Bacterial adhesion occurred in all composite resins regardless of the treatment. There was greater bacterial adhesion in Cn1 for Z250 and FTK. Conclusion: The pH cycles did not alter the Ra of composite resins Z250, FTK, TTC and AUR. Simulated toothbrushing after pH cycles caused Ra increase only for AUR, and reduced bacterial adhesion in Z250 and FTK composite resins. There was degradation of the surface of all composite resins, as well as bacterial adhesion. (Artigo 2 Effect of gastric acid on the surface of bulk-fill composite resins) Aim: To evaluate, in vitro, quantitatively and qualitatively, the effect of gastric acid on surface roughness and bacterial adhesion in Bulk-Fill composite resins followed by simulated toothbrushing. Materials and Methods: 30 samples of each Bulk-Fill composite resin were obtained: G1 (control): Z250; G2: Filtek Bulk- Fill (FTK); G3: Tetric N-Ceram Bulk-Fill (TTC); G4: Aura Bulk-Fill (AUR). The samples were polished after 24 h and immersed in 10 ml of gastric acid for 24 h at 37?C. Following, the samples were submitted to simulated toothbrushing. Ra and Cn were obtained in three different stages: initial (Ra0 and Cn0), after gastric acid (Ra1 and Cn1) and after gastric acid and simulated toothbrushing (Ra2 and Cn2). Additional samples were submitted to the simulated toothbrushing test only and received the same measurements (Ra* and Cn*).Two-way ANOVA was used to evaluate Ra, followed by the Tukey test. Regarding the Cn analysis, the Kruskal-Wallis test was used, followed by multiple comparisons. The significance level was of 5%. Results: Z250 and FTK had a significant increase in surface roughness in Ra1. In Ra2, the four composite resins did not significantly differ from Ra0, but there was a significant reduction of the means in Ra2 of Z250 and FTK compared to Ra1. For Cn, Z250 and FTK allowed an increased biofilm accumulation in comparison with TTC and AUR. SEM images showed crack formation and exposure of fillers in Ra1, occurring detachment of the exposed fillers. Microcavities were observed in all composite resins in Ra2. Bacterial adhesion occurred in all composite resins regardless of the treatment. There was higher bacterial adhesion in Cn1, followed by reduction of bacterial adhesion in Cn2 for all tested materials, except for AUR. Conclusion: Gastric acid increased the surface roughness of Z250 and FTK composite resins, as well as promoted higher bacterial accumulation compared to TTC and AUR composite resins. There was degradation of the surface of all composite resins, as well as bacterial adhesion.
