CUTTING PROPAGATION AND CONTAINER PRODUCTION OF RUDY HAAG BURNING BUSH [Euonymus alatus Rudy Haag]Poston, Amy Lynn 01 January 2007 (has links)
Softwood cuttings of Euonymus alatus and the cultivar Rudy Haag, a nearly seedless cultivar, were taken in Kentucky on two cutting dates. E. alatus Rudy Haag cuttings taken in mid-May, untreated or treated with 1000 - 3000 ppm IBA, produced many roots on a high percentage of cuttings. Post-rooting shoot growth was reduced for the species with cuttings taken in June. Rudy Haag produced new growth on cuttings taken in May with no IBA treatment. Transplanting resulted in a decrease in new growth. Liner plants of E. alatus Compactus and Rudy Haag were planted into 1 and 3 gallon containers of two different types, conventional black plastic and root training. A second experiment exposed plants to two levels of supplemental fertilizer in addition to slow release. A subsample was sprayed with Fascination (BA + GA4+7) at 1500 ppm in late July. No difference was seen in above-ground growth due to container type or supplemental fertilizer. A change in root morphology is seen with root trainers. Three gallon containers produced a larger plant than one gallon containers. Rudy Haag sprayed with Fascination were greater in size and branch number than those not sprayed.

Performance comparison between Apache and NGINX under slow rate DoS attacksAl-Saydali, Josef, Al-Saydali, Mahdi January 2021 (has links)
One of the novel threats to the internet is the slow HTTP Denial of Service (DoS) attack on the application level targeting web server software. The slow HTTP attack can leave a high impact on web server availability to normal users, and it is affordable to be established compared to other types of attacks, which makes it one of the most feasible attacks against web servers. This project investigates the slow HTTP attack impact on the Apache and Nginx servers comparably, and review the available configurations for mitigating such attack. The performance of the Apache and NGINX servers against slow HTTP attack has been compared, as these two servers are the most globally used web server software. Identifying the most resilient web server software against this attack and knowing the suitable configurations to defeat it play a key role in securing web servers from one of the major threats on the internet. From comparing the results of the experiments that have been conducted on the two web servers, it has been found that NGINX performs better than the Apache server under slow rate DoS attack without using any configured defense mechanism. However, when defense mechanisms have been applied to both servers, the Apache server acted similarly to NGINX and was successful to defeat the slow rate DoS attack.

Another face of justice : interpretative debates within the Canadian trial novel after 1970Blanc, Marie Thérèse, 1960- January 2004 (has links)
This study examines Canadian works of fiction that contain historical trial narratives and that enact an adversarial trial of their own for an implied reader who acts as 'appellate judge.'' Included are four Canadian novels published after 1970 that fictionalize the circumstances leading to notorious criminal trials: Margaret Atwood's Alias Grace (1996), Lynn Crosbie's Paul's Case: The Kingston Letters (1997), and Rudy Wiebe's The Temptations of Big Bear (1973) and The Scorched-Wood People (1977). They represent commentaries on the justice or injustice done to convicted murderer Grace Marks (whose trial took place in 1843), to rebel Cree chief Big Bear and Metis leader Louis Riel (1885), and to serial rapists and killers Karla Homolka and Paul Bernardo (1993, 1995). / Each work reproduces excerpts from the original trial yet also represents a response to the historical trial's unfolding. This adversarial response takes the form of a trial-like narrative (or counternarrative) that engages with the original trial. Consequently each of these works is what I call a 'trial novel' that raises fundamental questions about justice and citizenship. / Chapter One analyzes Atwood's Alias Grace and lays bare the fictional constructs included in a trial narrative. Chapter Two looks at Crosbie's Paul's Case and pits the judicial system's claim to sober neutrality against a more populist version of justice based on affect and revenge. Finally, Chapter Three, which is devoted to Wiebe's novels, studies the conflict of normative universes implicit in trials for treason and posits that rebel nomoi are as coherent as the dominant ones that quash them. / Three communities are implicit in these novels and enter into a debate with one another: at the core of each work is a historical community of persons (the accused, attorneys, the judge, jurors, and members of the Canadian public) mobilized around an actual crime. This original community and its judgment provide the inspiration for the fictional community of the novel, which grapples with its own version of the crime and trial. Finally, an imaginative community of readers deliberates upon the questions raised both by the original trial and by the 'trial novel'.

A TIME-AND-SPACE PARALLELIZED ALGORITHM FOR THE CABLE EQUATIONLi, Chuan 01 August 2011 (has links)
Electrical propagation in excitable tissue, such as nerve fibers and heart muscle, is described by a nonlinear diffusion-reaction parabolic partial differential equation for the transmembrane voltage $V(x,t)$, known as the cable equation. This equation involves a highly nonlinear source term, representing the total ionic current across the membrane, governed by a Hodgkin-Huxley type ionic model, and requires the solution of a system of ordinary differential equations. Thus, the model consists of a PDE (in 1-, 2- or 3-dimensions) coupled to a system of ODEs, and it is very expensive to solve, especially in 2 and 3 dimensions.
In order to solve this equation numerically, we develop an algorithm, extended from the Parareal Algorithm, to efficiently incorporate space-parallelized solvers into the framework of the Parareal algorithm, to achieve time-and-space parallelization. Numerical results and comparison of the performance of several serial, space-parallelized and time-and-space-parallelized time-stepping numerical schemes in one-dimension and in two-dimensions are also presented.

Generátor kybernetických útoků / Cyberattack GeneratorGregr, Filip January 2017 (has links)
This thesis is focused on developing a tool that is capable of generating cyber attacks. In the opening there are introduced some attacks using the ISO/OSI application layer protocols. Specifically, these are attacks known as Slowloris, RUDY, Slow Read, HTTP flood, and dictionary attack on the SSH. These attacks are implemented into an existing DoSgen Linux tool that already contains several famous network attacks. The main part of the thesis is devoted to the description of the tool and to the implementation of its own extension. The created tool is practically tested in an experimental enviroment against the Apache web server. Part of the thesis is the documentation for the improved DoSgen tool.

The Transatlantic Threads of Nolltolerans : Tracing Swedish Newspaper Discourse Through the Lens of AmericanizationFillios, Xanthe January 2024 (has links)
Most people don’t usually conjure the image of American policing methods in the Swedish police. The early-to-late 1990s would oversee a push to tackle what was then seen as rising crime and a battle over the subway a decade before in New York City. This style of policing, called Broken Windows would become mythicized in certain political circles about how it was able to reverse the trends of societal decline. It wasn’t soon after that Broken Windows had found itself in two Swedish law enforcement models over a span of fifteen years. By using the theory of Americanization, or how this transatlantic exchange of ideas had impacted important newspaper discourse–we can learn how once-American ideas, like Broken Windows, become new cultural concepts in Swedish journalistic discourse over time.
