A New Gravitational Approach to Least Transportation Cost Warehouse Location

Van Auken, Stuart, 1941- 05 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to examine single facility warehouse location models. The need for such a study is primarily two-fold. First, single facility warehouse location models which determine an alleged optimum location through a coordinate system have been developed. Secondly, the need for additional research is necessary because the approaches involving linear programming, simulation, or heuristic programming do not by definition generate an optimal location.

Odpovědnost v mezinárodní námořní přepravě / Liability in International Sea Transport

Vondráčková, Kristýna January 2012 (has links)
Liability in International Maritime Transport Main aim of this thesis is a brief introduction to the maritime law, the applicable liability systems, impact of carriage of goods by sea on trade in the Czech Republic and possible future development of international trade. The relationships in the maritime area may be quite complicated and the purpose of this thesis is to present them in a reader-friendly, comprehensible manner. The original reason that led me into choice of this topic is my personal interest in both international trade and ships. International transport may be considered as subsidiary to the sale or exchange of goods but is of essential relevance for the conclusion of trade. Approximately 90% of non-bulk cargo is shipped via ocean. The importance of the international maritime transport is therefore enormous and together with broadening globalization, the legislation in the area of maritime transport gradually increases its effect on the Czech Republic. Moreover, the freight and other costs of shipping considerably influence purchase price of goods. Liability is then crucial when deciding who is to bear the costs of loss, damage to the goods, late delivery of the goods, insurance, bank payment fees, packaging, etc. The text is divided into six chapters. The introductory chapter opens the...

Konvička, Tomáš January 2012 (has links)
Legal regime of transboundary shipments of waste The aim of my thesis titled "Legal regime of transboundary shipments of waste" is to deliver a comprehensive analysis of legal aspects of cross-border shipments of waste. The thesis aspires to describe and interpret the various regulations and norms that govern this area, regardless of whether they are of international, European or national origin; it also evaluates whether the legislation provides sufficient tools for protection of the environment and whether the cross-border shipments of waste are desirable from the perspective of environmental protection. The thesis consists of eleven chapters. The first three chapters provide a theoretical introduction to the topic - chapter one contains the basic objectives and definition of the legal regulation of cross-border shipments of waste; chapter two outlines the fundamental principles of the environmental law and their applicability to the shipments of waste; and chapter three introduces the reader to the historical development of the subject matter in question. Chapters four to eight of the paper are devoted to the description and analysis of the legislation currently applicable. The fourth chapter describes international treaties such as Basel, Bamako, and other conventions. The fifth chapter focuses on...

An analysis of late shipments from South African vendors to EU buyers.

Muller, Craig. January 2006 (has links)
This dissertation set out to ascertain that a South African vendor, on-time delivery to EU buyers, was unreliable. Late deliveries from South African vendors to EU buyers have led to Kingfisher Sourcing Africa (Pty) Ltd being a volatile sourcing office for the Kingfisher Group. Kingfisher Sourcing Africa (Pty) Ltd need to take considerable measures in determining which South African vendors they source products from in order to determine their success or failure. This research has highlighted the following problem: i. South African vendors are unreliable suppliers. Recommendations derived from this research include: ii. The need to clarify terms and conditions of trade, iii. To ensure Kingfisher Sourcing Africa (Pty) Ltd has a contract in place with South African vendors, iv. To periodically and systematically evaluate South African vendor's : Financial capabilities, Supply chain capacity, Management structure, Product offering mix, / Thesis (MBA)-University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg, 2006.
