In this text we want to understand how the people seen the marriage, what their motivations and strategies to marry for the second time, contradicting the Catholic Church, once the first wife, in some cases was alive. Others objectives of this study are understand how the Catholic Church did the analysis of this bigame cases acting in the population control. The documental basis os this study it is made of Inquisitorial Processes, this documents is in the Tombo Tower Archive, Inquisitorial Ordinance, First Archbishopric Constitutions of Bahia, Chapters of the Visitors Book of the Tombo of the cities of Russas and Arneiroz and Ordinations of the Kingdom. Our conclusion is that the study of bigame cases is possible understand the marriage values to the people and to the control institutions. / Através da análise de alguns casos de bigamia, que foram alvos da ação inquisitorial, este estudo envereda pelas relações e os arranjos sociais constituídos na antiga capitania do Siará grande, no século XVIII, atravessadas pelos temas da mobilidade da população, da transitoriedade propícia aos Sertões, do significado do casamento, das mudanças de identidades e de profissões, além de aspectos circunscritos à atuação da igreja na capitania. Busca-se entender o significado do sacramento casamento católico para os sujeitos históricos no contexto colonial, bem como as motivações e as estratégias, utilizadas para se contrair um segundo casamento em “face de Igreja”, sendo a primeira esposa ainda viva, além de se buscar compreender a dinâmica em torno da atuação da Igreja Católica, em seus múltiplos organismos de vigilância e de controle da população. A base documental analisada se compõe de Processos Inquisitoriais presentes no Arquivo da Torre do Tombo (1752-1798), dos Regimentos Inquisitoriais, das Constituições Primeiras do Arcebispado da Bahia, dos Capítulos das Visitas dos Livros de Tombo de Russas e Arneiroz e das Ordenações do Reino. Conclui-se que o estudo da prática da bigamia possibilita a compreensão dos valores em torno do casamento tanto para os sujeitos que se apropriavam e o ressignificavam, como para as instituições de controle.

For this purpose, I have looked at the means that enabled the establishment of these colonial elite, such as, the grant allotments procedures, the justifications provided by its applicants, the individual or collective nature of the requests, and the social background of those who received allotments. Those aspects herein examined served to identify the patterns which were presented by the recipients to justify such endowment. Specifically about the Hinterlands of Mombaça, located on the banks of the river Banabuiú in the Hinterlands Central Ceará, the applications were mostly justified for the military services rendered in the so-called fair-wars (Guerras Justas) against the indigenous nations and also as economic justification for the inlands occupations through the opening up cattle ranches. Then, I seek to analyze the configuration and the historical development of those cattle ranches, the family agreements and the economical joints that favored the formation of these local colonial elite whose economic strength was based on the ownership of lands, cattle and slaves. / Este trabalho procura compreender a formação da elite colonial nos Sertões de Mombaça, capitania do Siará grande, no século XVIII. Para tanto, busca-se analisar quais os meios que permitiram a constituição desta elite colonial, como a forma das concessões de sesmarias, as justificativas apresentadas pelos requerentes, a natureza individual ou coletiva dos pedidos, a origem social dos sesmeiros, visando identificar quais os padrões por eles apresentados que justificavam a referida mercê. Especificamente sobre os Sertões de Mombaça, ribeira do Banabuiú, hoje Sertão Central do Ceará, os pedidos eram justificados em sua maioria pelos serviços prestados nas guerras justas contra os gentios e como justificativa econômica da ocupação nas fazendas de criar. Em seguida procuro analisar a constituição e desenvolvimento histórico das fazendas de criar e as articulações familiares e econômicas que propiciaram a formação desta elite proprietária de terras, gados e escravos.
