Křepelková, Eliška January 2013 (has links)
In my work I deal with smoking among clients seeking treatment for depression or neurotic disorders. The aim of my work is to examine the relationship between depression, anxiety and addiction to nicotine. The research was conducted through a questionnaire survey among clients of day care centres and psychiatric department. Overall, participated in the research was 32 respondents, including 20 women and 12 men. The average age of respondents was 39 years. 22 respondents completing the questionnaire identified yourself as regular smokers, 2 as occasional, 3 as ex-smokers and 5 respondents as nonsmokers. The research was conducted from December 2012 to April 2013. I found that respondents smoke as well, if they feel mentally well. If they are mentally ill, smoke more. During hospitalization or visits to day care centres smoke as much or more. Depressed and anxious thoughts of the respondents almost always leads to a light taste. The relationship between smoking and depression I was able to prove only in the group of smokers.

ŠAUFLOVÁ, Lucie January 2009 (has links)
The lifestyle of secondary school students in the town of Havlíčkův Brod. The objective of my thesis was to call attention to the current possible risks of adolescents at secondary schools who live an inappropriate lifestyle. This is primarily the risk of becoming addicted to alcohol and smoking. The consumption of alcohol and smoking is very widespread among young people in the Czech Republic. The lifestyle of adolescents is affected by numerous factors. It is important to beginning teaching children a healthy lifestyle as soon as possible. Addiction to alcohol and smoking adversely affects the human body and causes very many diseases. The thesis presents up-to-date information about the lifestyle of secondary school students in the town of Havlíčkův Brod. The age at which a child or adolescent acquires his first experience with alcohol or cigarettes has markedly decreased in the past two years. This fact, of course, disturbs a wide range of experts from ranks of pedagogues, educators, medical workers, and other experts. Czechs belong among the leading consumers of alcoholic drinks in the Word. The number of smokers among adolescents increases daily. The risk of premature death is associated with this. A lifestyle belongs among important factors that can influence not only behaviour but also a person's health.

EXPLORING YOUNG PEOPLE'S CONCEPTS OF SMOKING ADDICTION: PERCEIVED OPPORTUNITIES TO TRY SMOKING WITHOUT BECOMING ADDICTED

WANG, Calvin, c.wang@ecu.edu.au January 2006 (has links)
This study explores how young people conceptualise addiction to smoking and, also the relationship between young people's addiction beliefs and intentions to smoke cigarettes. Addiction to smoking is a major health problem, not just for adults, but also for young smokers, up to 60% of whom are dependent on nicotine. However, anti-smoking prevention efforts targeted at young people generally emphasise ill-health effects and little attention is paid to addiction education which is generally considered relevant only to adult smoking and cessation efforts. Perhaps as a consequence, young people appear to have many misconceptions and unrealistic ideas about addiction, and these may possibly have influenced initial decisions to take up smoking. For example, between 50% and 60% of young smokers believe that it would be easy or very easy to stop smoking altogether if and when they choose to and the majority of daily smokers mistakenly believe that they will not be smoking for more than five years. For these young smokers, becoming addicted is often an unforeseen consequence and most are surprised to find that they cannot give up smoking as easily as they thought. The majority of addicted smokers regret ever taking up smoking but nevertheless continue to smoke cigarettes for perhaps 30 to 40 years because they find it very difficult to stop. This backdrop provides the impetus for the present study.

Problematika kuřáctví studentů středních zdravotnických škol / Aspects of smoking among students of high medical school.

BLAHOVÁ, Monika January 2015 (has links)
The thesis topic bears the name: "Aspect of smoking among students of high medical schools". Smoking is one the most often appearing drug addictions nowadays in Europe. With reference to the World Health Organization, there are 1.3 billion of smoking people in the world today whereas consequences of smoking kill approximately 4.8 million of people every year, which are 560 people each hour. If the current trend continues, then in the current pace 10 million of people will die of the consequences of cigarette smoking during the year of 2020. Smoking invokes an enormous addiction to nicotine which bears itself considerable economic, social and health problems. There were some students from 1st and 4th grade of the present form of studies of all high medical schools selected. Those were students particularly from the schools: SZŠ and VOŠZ České Budějovice, SOŠZ and SOU Český Krumlov, SZŠ Jindřichův Hradec, SZŠ Tábor and SZŠ Písek. In total, 591 of students were responded whereas most of them were girls (87%). The average age of the responded ones was 17 years. The thesis consists of theoretical and empirical parts. The theoretical part deals with history of cigarette smoking, a definition of drug addiction, chemical composition of cigarette smoke and malignity of individual toxic elements. Further, there is a chapter concerning problem issues of electronic cigarette smoking in the theoretical part. In the conclusion of this part of the thesis, there are some statistical data referring to cigarette smoking stated. There are some findings of quite a few of authors dealing with problem issues of cigarette smoking and addiction to nicotine summarized here. The empirical part consists of findings from my own research analysis which was done with the intention to map the prevalence of smoking among future health workers and their opinion to cigarette smoking among healthcare staff and people preparing for their healthcare career. There are also the respondents' opinions and attitudes included. The aim of the thesis was: 1.: To find the prevalence of smoking of 1st and 4th grade of high medical schools students. 2.: To find what influence the respondents' surroundings have on the fact of their smoking. 3.: To find what attitude high medical school students have to healthcare staff smoking cigarettes. To reach the above mentioned aims, there were three hypotheses determined: H1: There is a statistically significant difference existing in the prevalence of smoking at 1st and 4th grade of high medical school students. H2: There is a statistically significant difference existing in the prevalence of cigarette smoking among students coming from families where at least one member smokes. H3: There are statistically significant differences in the attitude of 1st and 4th grade students to cigarette smoking among healthcare workers. To prove or disprove the mentioned hypotheses there is a method of quantitative research selected. A questionnaire was used to collect the data. The questionnaires including 23 questions were distributed among 591 students of high medical schools of the South Bohemia Region. Their rate of return was 85%. The collected data were processed in the form of transparent graphs and the hypotheses were statistically tested. Pursuant to the evaluation of respondents' answers including the statistical data testing were proved by the hypothesis which presumed that there were statistically significant differences in the prevalence of cigarette smoking 1st and 4th grade students. The difference really exists that the 4th grade students smoke more often. It is interesting that the most considerable difference is between the schools of SZŠ and VOŠZ České Budějovice. On the contrary, the percentage of smoking students of SOŠZ Český Krumlov in the 1st grade is considerably high. Hypothesis no. 2 was statistically proved as well. There is a real significant difference exist

Important information relating to smoking, specifically information about tobacco and its ways of consumption, smoking effects on womens and mens organism and the health in general, nicotinism and prevention in this case are translated in the theoretical part. The questionnaire was made in practical part and by using quantitave research it was found out the differences in smoking among women and men ? students at the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice. Obtained dates were noted, evaluated and processed in programmes MS Word and Exel by using tables and graphs into the arranged form. By the research survey it was found out that among 254 respondents there was more mens smoker (48,03%) than womens smoker (48,13%). Also, it was showed that women (55,51%) are more informed about smoking effects and its harmfulness to the organism than men (36,61%). The difference between men and women was demonstrated also in the type of cigarettes which they smoke. Women prefer thin cigarettes to stronger cigarettes that are preferred by men.
