Bergström Östling, Louise, Fält, Elin January 2017 (has links)
The aim of this study was twofold. First, to explore what challenges social workers may experience in their work with female rape survivors. The second aim was to explore how social workers work with females who have survived rape. A qualitative research design was chosen, and semi-structured interviews with social workers were conducted. Thematic analysis was used to structure the findings. Four themes were found in connection to challenges; feelings of shame and guilt among rape survivors, the criminal proceedings, to not be able to help all survivors and lastly potential threats to social workers’ own wellbeing. The findings regarding methods were that the social workers adapt their work strategies based on the needs of the survivor. The social workers used strategies focused on reducing feelings of shame and guilt and normalizing symptoms.

“It's not about the numbers, it's about the process” Working Methods and Tools for Homeless Youth in Eugene, Oregon

Mohamud, Luul, Patterson, Amanda January 2021 (has links)
The aim of this study was to explore what working methods and tools service providers use to engage with and support homeless youth in Eugene, Oregon. The authors considered a qualitative research method with semi-structured interviews as the most appropriate way to collect data. A total of five participants took part in this study, all of which are service providers in the United States, specifically in Eugene, Oregon (OR) and work directly with homeless youth. The empirical findings were analyzed through the ecological systems theory perspective in order to properly explore the effects different systems have on working methods and tools. The data collected in this study was divided into three themes: Engaging and Supportive Tools, Barriers & Supportive Factors and desired changes by service providers. These themes properly highlight the most common and vital information collected from the participants in this study. The findings indicate trust building as an essential method and tool with any service provider attempting to engage with and support homeless youth. It was also discovered that funding was the biggest barrier that service providers faced when exploring working methods and tools used to engage with and support homeless youth.

Towards a more reflexive research aware practice: The influence and potential of professional and team culture.

Lawler, John A., Bilson, A. January 2004 (has links)
No / This article reflects on the debates about Evidence Based Practice and suggests a new approach to implementing a more reflexive and research aware social work practice in professional teams. We show that there has been a substantial focus on the responsibility of individual professionals for using best evidence to guide their practice and on the organisation to provide an environment and policies suited to EBP. We argue that there is a need to balance this by an increased focus on the professional and team culture in which social work takes place. We draw on the literature on organisational change and social work research to suggest a new direction for encouraging greater reflexivity and developing a more open participative approach to the use of evidence to shape new practices in social work at the local level.

Evidensbaserad praktik : Socialt fältarbete i Rinkeby-Kista stadsdelsförvaltning

Ingram, Sofia, Larsen, Lotta January 2014 (has links)
Increasingly high demands, in western welfare states, are placed on a scientifically based social work practice; a so-called evidence based practice. The aim for the study is to investigate evidence based social work practice. This is achieved through a study of the work methods of detached youth workers from Rinkeyby-Kista district administration in Stockholm and their view on evidence based social work. The study is conducted using interviews which together with various documents are analyzed and set against a theoretical framework. The documents consist of a popular science article, two job advertisements and data from detached youth workers. The authors thus use different methods of collecting data. The theoretical framework consists of the National Board model for evidence based work and applied theoretical literature regarding evidence based practice, social work and outreach work. The results demonstrate that there is uncertainty about the concept of evidence based practice among detached youth workers included in the survey. This furthermore leads to an evidence based practice which is largely carried out without a professional awareness.
