Considered as the main economic activity in the city until the 1970s, livestock for more than a century, was responsible for the dynamics and territorial configuration of the municipality - condition changed with the advent of modern agriculture (1970s). Currently, national prominence in grain production is seen as one of the greatest economic potential of the city in Goiás, Jataí presents a reality in the field marked by several sets of interests surrounding the use and occupation of land in the respective municipality. In this context, control of land, essential for the production and reproduction of capital in Jataí, because it is a city of agrarian economy has been the center of discussions political, economic, environmental, social, cultural, etc.. Given this context, this paper aims to analyze the current territory of the livestock and represented socio-economic and political Jataí productive in its class, rather than a diminishing increase in areas occupied by pastures and a significant increase in agricultural areas. To this end, the work was done from readings and theoretical reflections of authors of the genre, working with field interviews with farmers and ranchers, analysis of economic data, political and social bodies raised in the city, important historically and geographically, in terms of understanding the dynamics of the territorial council of Jataí (GO), established from a core relationship between the livestock and land. Thus, this research reveals how the ownership and control of land in Jataí still maintain a close relationship with the farmer class, even though agricultural production the great economic and social dynamic in the city in recent decades. / O município de Jataí (GO), está localizado no sudoeste goiano, cuja formação territorial se deu em meio ao expansionismo da pecuária em terras goianas. Considerada como a principal atividade econômica no município até a década de 1970, a pecuária, por mais de um século, foi responsável pela dinâmica e configuração territorial do município condição alterada com a chegada da agricultura moderna (década de 1970). Atualmente, destaque nacional na produção de grãos e visto como um dos município de maior potencial econômico em Goiás, Jataí apresenta uma realidade no campo marcada pelos diversos jogos de interesses que circunscrevem o uso e ocupação do solo no respectivo município. Neste contexto, o controle da terra, condição essencial para a produção e reprodução do capital em Jataí, por se tratar de um município de economia agrária, tem sido o centro de inúmeros debates políticos, econômicos, ambientais, sociais, culturais, etc. Considerando tal contexto, este trabalho objetiva analisar o atual território da pecuária e a representação sócio-econômica e política de sua classe produtiva em Jataí, em detrimento de um decrescente aumento das áreas ocupadas com pastagens e um significativo aumento das áreas agrícolas. Para tanto, o trabalho desenvolvido foi realizado a partir de leituras e reflexões teóricas de autores do gênero; de trabalho de campo com a realização de entrevistas com produtores agrícolas e pecuaristas; análise de dados econômicos, políticos e sociais levantados em órgãos no município, importantes historica e geograficamente, no que tange o entendimento da dinâmica territorial do município de Jataí (GO), estabelecida a partir de uma relação cerne entre a pecuária e a terra. Assim, a presente pesquisa revela como a posse e o controle das terras em Jataí ainda mantêm uma estreita relação com a classe pecuarista, mesmo sendo a produção agrícola o grande dinamizador econômico e social no município nas últimas décadas.
