Orgány vnímání a vyjadřování v dramatickém díle Samuela Becketta / The Organs of Perception and Expression in Samuel Beckett's Dramatic Works

This thesis focuses on three plays written by Samuel Beckett: Play, Not I and Footfalls. Corporeality is the central theme of these works, which also connects them to an important and celebrated source of study and inspiration for the dramatist, The Comedy of Dante Alighieri. The influence played by Dante's descriptions of the body, particularly in the cantica of Inferno, is visible in Beckett's works for the ways in which the organs of perception and expression are treated at both textual and theatrical level. In the three plays the activities of mouth, eyes, ears (and less relevantly, nose) constitute the narrative focus of the text, while the sensorial aspects derived by their presence on stage determine the kind of exchange at play between actors and spectators. Staging immobilized, constricted and barely visible characters who, narrating obscure, uncertain stories, obsessively try to make a sense of their existential and physical conditions, the author gives life to a metatheatrical language rooted on instability and doubt. After the introductory opening chapter, the second chapter looks at the language of Dante's Inferno and at its thematization of corporeality, introducing the continuities between the poem and Beckett's drama. This diploma work entitled The Naked Actor or Adventure Time is not an academic, scientific thesis to all intents and purposes. It is more personal search and enquiry of the motifs of nakedness, exposedness and adventure which further proceeds to more distant, yet relevant ideas as are authenticity, ease, play, states of consciousness, improvisation, sexuality, abashment, corporality etc. Certain parts of the study utilize some ideas of Jerzy Grotowski and the author also uses individual experiences and examples from her own professional career. On that account the form of the work itself is structured to make the best record of the very process of enquiry and thinking.

Tělesnost v lidové písni (Perspektiva etnolingvistiky a kognitivní poetiky) / Body parts in folk songs (The perspective of ethnoliguistics and cognitive poetics)

(in English): This interdisciplinary thesis deals with the relation of oral tradition and somatic terms - words describing specific parts of the human body. The analysis is based on the ethnolinguistics, the theory of term's profile in particular, that deals with the question of which somatic terms serve as the inputs to semantic contexts and what is their dominant meaning. The thesis focuses on general interpretation of folk poetry, while aiming to those poetic methods and characteristics that are coherent to the main subject of the thesis. Next chapter describes ethno-linguistics and explains its methods and theory - the relation of language and culture, language stereotypes and mainly the theory of term's profile. The core of the thesis is the chapter dedicated to somatic terms: hands, eyes, blood, cheeks, mouth and face. Based on the collections Prostonárodní české písně a říkadla (National Czech songs and riddles) by K. J. Erben and Moravské národní písně (Moravian national songs) by F. Sušil, it determines the meaning profiles. In these it describes more closely in what meanings the terms mentioned above appear in folk songs.

Genderované aspekty těla a tělesnosti u downhillových longboardistek / Gender aspects of body and corporeality of female downhill longboard riders

Focusing on girls who compete in downhill longboarding, this thesis examines how women are pushed to display typically "male" characteristics in order to succeed. With contemporary western society viewing attributes such as speed, being competitive, overcoming fear and coping with pain as typically masculine traits, the main research goal of this inquiry is to find out how female riders cope with maintaining their femininity in the masculinized world of downhill longboarding. The main focus is on observing how female riders cope with being a good rider and being feminine at the same time, primarily through the way this double-faced pressure is projected in the bodies of female downhill longboarders.The theoretical part of this thesis is mainly focused on a sport as a gendered/masculinized field and the ideal form of the body constructed by the sociocultural pressure and instructions which are associated with it. The analytical part of this thesis is focused on the experiences of Czech female downhillers and the way in which they negotiate their femininity/masculinity, perceived or otherwise, and how the gender order is projected onto their bodies. The Body of Music examines in what sense we can and must ascribe some sort of a body to music, which has traditionally been considered the most ideal and metaphysical of arts, and it seeks to analyze different aspects of corporeality in music. Its aim is to show that the body of music cannot be reduced to mere physical vibrations or simply to the condition sine qua non of musical experience. The body is always somehow active in music, it co-creates it, inspires it, it forms its significance or signifiance. Simultaneously it is itself transformed by music, it is played out in and through music. First, the body becomes apparent when we look at music as a process and activity rather than as a product. The body of a musician is that of a perpetual learner, it transforms itself, it is forced to think by itself and while "performing" music it has to breathe life into it, actualize it. Second, confronted with the process of learning and a musical instrument we come across the body of sound: something like the obstinacy of the material, irreducible to the intelligible strata of the musical sound. Sound is a complex phenomenon, whose material layer is itself productive of meaning. Third, there is the body of the listener, which is similar to that of the musician in that it too has to "perform", compose the music....

It deals with the body and corporeality approaches from philosophical and anthropomorphic perspective followed by development of visual arts. Development of body decoration in ethnic cultures as well as in actual bodyart formations are captured here. The practical part focuses on the transfer of body and corporeality theme into the art classes. It brings in a detailed analysis of art series, which is logically arranged in methodical steps following the theoretic part.

Master thesis discusses a reflection of a project To have a body, to be a body which took place in the years 2009 ? 2012. Its topic was a human body and the way how we approach our corporeity and how we relate to it in present days. The project included the experience of people with various types of health or social handicap and also a people whose relationship to own bodies was influenced by their profession. The first part which was the research part included the series of six workshops with following groups: people with mental handicap, boys from juvenile detention center, elderly people, people with physical handicap, IT experts and physicians. The teachers of the workshops were utilizing various movement concepts, approaches and methods (e.g. Feldenkrais method, modern dance, rhythmics, dance and movement therapy, dramatherapy, physiotherapy, neutral mask?) with a common goal to bring the participants to self-expression and self-recognition through their own bodies and authentic movement. In the second part which was the performance part, the authorial performance was created (publicly performed in the years 2010 ? 2012), in which the participants of former workshops took part as authors and performers. The project has had inclusive and integrative aspects. The thesis provides an insight into the project by means of thematic profiles based on its major topics ? it includes chapters Lecturers, teachers and their work in the groups, Group dynamics, Assistance and its changes during the project, Integration, inclusion, re-socialization and project etc.). Among others, one of the resources is wide documentary material gathered continuously during the project. It includes quotes from diary records, interviews with teachers, assistants, participants and curators of workshop groups and from questionnaires for participants and authors of the project. There is rich video and photo documentation added to the thesis.

The theoretical part presents the filosofy of the spirit and body, the physicality, body dissability, cerebral palsy and the Act No. 108/2006 Coll., on social services. The empirical part consists of the case managment of the client with cerebral palsy. I describe the goal of the thesis here and the method of collecting data. I also introduce my respondent in this part and mention the tasks of the research. The chapter called ,,Data and it's interpretation" consists of the qualitative interview. The aim of the interview is to show in what extent my respondent use a social services. The interview is the part of the thesis.

MÍKOVÁ, Martina. Phenomenology of body and corporeality. Prague: Faculty of Education, Charles University in Prague, 2012, pp. 84 Master Degree Thesis. The aim of the master thesis deals with the phenomenology of a body and corporeality. This is mainly the analysis of the arguments to distnquish a body and soul based on the Descartes 'Meditations on the First Philosophy' and 'The Passions of the Soul'. The introduction to the Cartesian dualism, which is the introduction to the phenomenology of a body and corporeality, is followed by the analysis of key passages in 'Phenomenology of Perception' by the French phenomenologists M. Merleau-Ponty who accents the importance of human corporeality as the essential and determining condition of human being. The third section deals with the philosophy of movement because the world and a man are in relative motion, based on Patočka's texts 'Body, Community, Language, World'. The final chapter of the thesis is based on the issue of the game as a symbol of the world presented by Eugen Fink.
