It is a case study of a Christian community organized in Sao Paulo and the foundation of a church here in 1962, the First Presbyterian Church of Formosa of Brazil. The research was based in the field of ethnical identity according to the proposals of Roberto Cardoso de Oliveira. In order to understand that migration movement, its development, the difficulties and challenges faced and how the church was organized we are going to study China and Taiwan history and rely mainly on the memories of the people. Specific bibliography about the Taiwanese migrating to Brazil is almost inexistent. We want to tell a story and write it so it will not be lost or forgotten. / O movimento migratório taiwanês para o Brasil, na cidade de São Paulo, e a fundação da Primeira Igreja Presbiteriana de Formosa de São Paulo em 1962 são o foco de estudo desta dissertação. É um estudo de caso dos cristãos presbiterianos taiwaneses que migram e aqui se estabelecem fundando essa igreja. A base para a análise será no campo da identidade étnica, tendo Roberto Cardoso de Oliveira como principal referencial. A fim de entender esse movimento migratório e seus desdobramentos, o processo para o estabelecimento no Brasil, as dificuldades enfrentadas, a fundação da igreja e as transformações experimentadas na igreja desde então, vamos buscar informações na história da China e Taiwan e, principalmente, nas memórias do povo. Essa migração para o Brasil é uma história não contada, escassa de referências bibliográficas. O intuito é contar uma história e escrevê-la a fim de preservá-la.

This research has as object of study the Presbyterian Church of Formosa, composed mostly of Taiwanese emigrants to Brazil from Taiwan Island, who settled in the city of Mogi of the Crosses in the second half of the twentieth century. The analysis takes a historical approach to the formation of the Presbyterian Church of Formosa and its unfolding, with the dedication and work of the first six families who arrived in the municipality in 1963, responsible for the construction of the first temple in the neighborhood of Botujuru. The collective and priority concern for the preservation of the Protestant faith in Brazilian soil, guided the way of living of the group; Motivated by the hope of Brazil as a prosperous land, just as it was the land of Canaan for the Israelites. / Este trabalho tem como objetivo analisar a composição da etnicidade e da identidade religiosa, que desempenha papel unificador no grupo de imigrantes taiwaneses protestantes, que ao longo de meio século de aculturação e interação social vem compondo o cenário da diversidade cultural e religiosa na cidade de Mogi das Cruzes no Estado de São Paulo. Esta pesquisa tem como objeto de estudo a Igreja Presbiteriana de Formosa, localizada em Mogi das Cruzes e composta em sua maioria por taiwaneses imigrados para o Brasil, provindos da Ilha Formosa-Taiwan, que se estabeleceram nessa cidade na segunda metade do século XX. A análise faz uma abordagem histórica da formação da Igreja Presbiteriana de Formosa e seus desdobramentos, com a dedicação e trabalho das seis primeiras famílias que chegaram ao município em 1963, responsáveis pela construção do primeiro templo no bairro de Botujuru. A preocupação coletiva e prioritária de preservação da fé protestante em solo brasileiro norteava a forma de viver do grupo; motivado pela esperança de ser o Brasil uma terra próspera, assim como foi a terra de Canaã para os israelitas.
