Mogren, Erik, Jadrijevic, Ugo January 2008 (has links)

This degree project was performed by students of the Innovation and Design Engineering programme at Karlstad University, Sweden. The group consisted of Ugo Jadrijevic and Erik Mogren and the work took place in the spring of 2008 during a 20-week period. The assigner Martin Larsson, CEO of Precer AB, wanted the students to develop a user interface for the replenishment of pellets and emptying the ashes created, used in pellet-and battery-hybrid vehicles. The work began with a survey among today's common refueling equipment and handles on equipment of various kinds. With Martin Larsson’s help a list of requirements was created which was supplemented by the results of a survey conducted among user of today’s equivalent equipment. Literature that dealt with ergonomics and design of handles was studied. A number of proposals for solutions were developed. These proposals were then evaluated with different elimination methods until only a few remained. A solution which consisted out of a bendable screw to feed up pellets was elected with the help of the assigner for the project, Martin Larsson. The result was a handle that sits on top of the tube that carries pellets. On the handle there is also a button that is used to control the filling of pellets. The handle sits at an angle of 110 degrees away from the tube; this is the optimum angle so that the strain on the hand will remain as small as possible. This solution was visualized in the form of a model. Other solutions are also represented in this report. These solutions may be appropriate to explore in further development of the pellet filling gear. The possibility to carry forward the pellets by means of air pressure and vacuum should be explored further in the future. This report does not take account of how the fuel tanks on these kinds of vehicles are designed and further development of these might be necessary so that they can be capable of functioning in a satisfactory way with the solutions that are presented in this report.
/
