This dissertation looks at the Christian religion experienced in Egypt during Late Antiquity through a study of the corpus of Coptic magical texts, and more specifically at Christian religious particularism as it appears in Coptic magical texts. By focusing on both the ritual actors and the rituality itself, it seeks to highlight the context in which Christianity portrayed in Coptic magic texts manifests itself, as well as the different ways in which the latter differs from the more idealized version of the Christian faith promulgated by the ecclesiastical hierarchy.

A Behavioral Approach to Management of Neuroleptic-Induced Tardive Dyskinesia: Progressive Relaxation TrainingJohnson, Philip Raymond January 2009 (has links)
The effectiveness of progressive relaxation training in decreasing the severity of neuroleptic-induced tardive dyskinesia (TD) was examined in the current study. Three residents at a county-owned nursing home who had been receiving neuroleptic medications for a number of years to treat severe mental illness participated in this study. A multiple baseline across subjects design was used to evaluate the effect of progressive relaxation training on the participant's orofacial TD symptomatology. The severity of each participant's orofacial TD was observed to improve when the intervention was introduced. Treatment integrity and IOA data that were collected indicate that the intervention was implemented at a high level of fidelity and that data were reliable. Thus, a clear functional relationship was established between progressive relaxation training and severity of orofacial TD in this study. Although the present study was preliminary in nature, the results that were obtained provide a basis upon which to develop a behavioral treatment protocol for managing TD.

Le corps féminin et ses représentations poétiques dans la latinité tardive / The Female Body and his Representations in Late Latin PoetryMalick-Prunier, Sophie 21 June 2008 (has links)
A striking constancy in the use of themes, images and literary techniques in poems spanning from the Classical to the late Latin periods emerges once a prevailing principle in the Classical and Christian traditions is brought to the fore. According to this principle as revealed by these poems the female body is both dysfunctional and inferior. Whether it be the puella, the sponsa or the uirgo, the female body serves as the medium for an oft edifying discourse dominated by the traditional canons of beauty together with the virtues fides, pietas and pudor. It is nevertheless possible to underscore a notable shift in the tone of the late poetic discourse taken as a whole with respect to the female body : little by little the latter reaps the benefits from the growing influence of Christian texts and, in particular, from the implications of the mystery of Incarnation, to become the paradigm of the glorification of the flesh allowed by the sacrifice of Christ – this, notwithstanding the discourse of certain Fathers – and sung by the poets thanks to the resources afforded by a generous art form.
