Através da experiência da Praça Roosevelt em suas dimensões urbanas e culturais sob a perspectiva das práticas e relações das intervenções urbanas por ela atravessadas, entretecidas com suas construções e reconstruções de sentidos, o trabalho investiga os processos e formas de atuação e conflitos intrínsecas à produção do espaço urbano na cidade de São Paulo e o lugar da cultura nesse processo. O trabalho, portanto, está comprometido com esse recorte na leitura que faz da Praça, não almejando compor seu retrato absoluto, mas espera-se que além de atentar para as formas com que as intervenções urbanas vêm sendo pensadas, consiga lançar perspectivas também para as formas de ocupação da Praça Roosevelt, sobretudo na última década incluindo sua reinauguração (2000-2012). Este reconhecimento da Roosevelt enquanto cena que mobiliza novas e velhas contradições permite a formação de um quadro de questões sobre os fenômenos urbanos e possíveis deslizamentos nos modos de construção e significados da cidade. Na medida em que a leitura da Praça Roosevelt se constrói, há também uma leitura correspondente, a da cidade. / Through observing the experience of Praca Roosevelt in its urban and cultural dimensions under the perspective of its practices and relations with urban interventions, this work analyzes the processes, ways of using public space, and conflicts, which are intrinsic to the production of urban space in Sao Paulo city, as well as the role of culture in this process. This work is committed to this narrow scope of Praca Roosevelt, not aiming to have a broader (or absolute) portray of it. However, I hope that this work sheds light on the ways through which urban interventions have been thought and creates new perspectives on the ways of occupying Praca Roosevelt, especially in the last decade including its reinauguration (2000-2012). The recognition of Praca Roosevelt as a scenario that mobilizes new and old contradictions provides the creation of a set of questions about urban phenomena and possible understandings of modes of construction and meanings of the city. At the same time that an analysis of Praca Roosevelt is here developed, an equivalent analysis of Sao Paulo city emerges.

Como diretora do GTC, foi reconhecida pela crítica especializada ao ser premiada pela montagem de Jorge Dandin. A partir de 1968, quando foi instaurado o AI -5, que tolheu os direitos dos civis, Heleny abandonou o teatro e entrou na luta armada, foi presa, torturada e certamente assassinada. Esta pesquisa reconstitui a biografia de Heleny, os seus passos como diretora e o seu legado como personagem histórica do teatro brasileiro, através de documentos oficiais e entrevistas com familiares, amigos, historiadores e pessoas que a conheceram ou trabalharam com ela. Será verificada ainda a maneira como Heleny está presente como personagem, décadas após o seu desaparecimento, em peças de teatro como Nossa cidade, de Luís Alberto de Abreu, Sinal de vida, de Lauro César Muniz, e Doce colibri, de Dulce Muniz, que a transformam em personagem de uma época em que teatro e política se complementaram. / Heleny Guariba born in Bebedouro, São Paulo and graduated as philosopher, started her theatrical career at EAD – Escola de Arte Dramática (Dramatic Art School), where she knew those who would be the future members of GTC - Grupo Teatro da Cidade (Theater Group of the City) and together they put into practice the strong influences inherited of Roger Planchon, a French dramatist who she had joined a training in Europe, then she dared to establish these influences in Brazil in a project developed in Santo André. As directress of GTC, she was recognized by the specialized critics when she had been rewarded for staging the play Jorge Dandin. As from 1968, when it was founded the AI-5, that hindered the civil rights, Heleny abandoned the dramatic art and flung herself into the conflict, she was arrested, tortured and certainly murdered. This research reconstitutes Heleny’s biography, her steps as directress and her legate as historical personage from the Brazilian dramatic art, based on authentic documents and interviews with relatives, friends, historiographers and people who knew or worked with her. It will be verified the way that Heleny is present as a character, decades after her disappearance, in plays as Nossa cidade, from Luís Alberto de Abreu, Sinal de vida, by Lauro Cézar Muniz, e Doce colibri, by Dulce Muniz, which transformed her in a personage from an epoch that dramatic art and politics accomplish themselves.

Este trabalho tem como objetivo a análise do espaço urbano, na medida em que explora o conceito de teatralidade das cidades para o urbanismo. Compreende a relação das intervenções artístico-urbanas e do teatro no espaço da metrópole, buscando principalmente fazer prospecções tanto da arte cênica, como das cidades.Ajuda a entender melhor o panorama mundial e as transformações culturais ao indicar, principalmente no âmbito das cidades, as novas possibilidades para o desenvolvimento da arte e da cultura, e para futuros empreendimentos e parcerias entre os setores público e privado. A arquitetura surge, nesta proposta, como um elemento essencial na história das cidades e das sociedades mundiais, em todos os seus períodos. Percorremos a trajetória teatral de três importantes representantes do teatro brasileiro, os grupos Galpão e Armatrux de Belo Horizonte e o Teatro da Vertigem de São Paulo. Buscou-se entender a relação do teatro de cada grupo, com os espaços da cidade, na sua forma de produção, no processo de re-significação de importantes espaços simbólicos e na re-qualificação dos vazios urbanos, em novos lugares contemporâneos da arte nas metrópoles. / The purpose of this work is the urban space analysis, as well as it explores the cities theatricalism concept to the urban planning. It comprises the relation between the artistic-urban interventions and the theater at the metropolis space, trying, mainly, to make prospections of both, the scenic art and the cities. Helping to better understand the world-wide scenery and the cultural transformations; and revealing it to the new possibilities for the art and culture development, mainly at the cities scope, for future undertaken and association between public and private sectors. Architecture results from, on this proposal, as a main element in the history of the cities and the world-wide societies, in all their periods. We covered the theatrical trajectory of three important Brazilian theater representatives, the groups Galpão and Armatrux from Belo Horizonte and Teatro da Vertigem from São Paulo. Seeking to understand the theater relation of each group, in its production manner, with the city spaces, at the re-significance process of important symbolic spaces and at the unoccupied urban re-designation in new contemporary places of art in metropolises.
