The plot is constructed based on solid geographical, historical and linguistic aspects, building the formation journey of the hero, reaching aspects beyond the original regional surroundings. These geographical, historical and linguistic structures present in both novels were compared with the findings of specialists of each field, mainly with literary criticism published during the lifetime of the writer. When representing this thematic framework, the author places his main character in a privileged place in the plot, enabling him to witness the great events involving the confronting parties. The reader has at his disposal literary resources as the grotesque, the carnivalesque, the polyphony, the chronotopic structure, the responsible act, the laughter, as analysed by Mikhail Bakhtin, whose theoretical considerations are considered in relation with the text. Narrative modes as stream of consciousness, as studied by Robert Humphrey, and the use of space and nature, compared to the principles defended by Gaston Bachelard, were also considered. The historical aspects of the practices and the tactics employed by the cangaceiros were analyzed in comparison to Frederico Mello’s studies. In order to structure the redemptory route of the hero, the author delves into the supporting characters in conflict, building up a polyphony of antagonistic confronting voices of all levels of society. These supporting characters gain importance in the development of the plot, building up a set of expressions, which expand and deepen the opinions present in the chosen environment of the action. At the same time, they create the conditions to widen the worldview of the main character, who becomes free to decide about his life, which is a summary of the regional conflicts.
