A Place of Our Own

Weinheimer, John F. III 08 December 1997 (has links)
A place is said to be meaningful when man feels "at home." Looking at industrial cities, one finds an immense density to them. This results from the communities surrounding the industry. These communities developed from the housing supplied by the factories for the workers, primarily immigrants. They generally formed communities based on their ethnic origins and/or religious beliefs. The craftsmanship, quality and conditions were not the best. Within this context some of the strongest communities developed. Industry supplied these families with minimal housing. These families created something greater - a place to live - a shelter they could return to and a community to grow. The workers and their families succeeded in making a place of their own. / Master of Architecture

DŮM NA ÚPATÍ - MĚSTSKÝ DŮM V HISTORICKÉM CENTRU BRNA / HOUSE ON THE FOOTHILL - TOWN HOUSE IN THE HISTORICAL CENTRE

Zouharová, Jana January 2013 (has links)
House in the heart of the city would, in my opinion, should be primarily part of the body and to participate in its operating structure. So do not just functional but beautiful town at the same time enrich it. My intention was to create a building that will not only "free riding" on its surroundings, but also offer new potential and space, function, operation ... The proposed solution not only offers its residents living complemented by service, but also around the new urban space to use. Personally, I see the street Pekarska be quite busy junction and deaths historic streets to the place was a pleasant breath in less predatory environment. The newly formed space thus be understood not only as a short line connecting the city streets on the way, but as a new urban area, which attracts around new features, vegetation and relatively intimate character. Targeting is here then proposed a combination of features that come with different composition and location of its users enough during the day.

DŮM NA ÚPATÍ - MĚSTSKÝ DŮM V HISTORICKÉM CENTRU BRNA / HOUSE ON THE FOOTHILL - TOWN HOUSE IN THE HISTORICAL CENTRE

Petrušková, Lucie January 2013 (has links)
The place has a unique location - in between Stare Brno, where the city originated, and the historical city centre. Its triangular shape is defined by two adjoining streets, a vibrant and ancient Pekarska and much younger Anenska. It is also a kind of transition between the big noble city and a shabby, yet fairy area. The design seeks to create a complex of buildings that react to these specific features and add a new layer to the city. The first decision was to enclose this heterogeneous area. Thus a clear structure is defined in regard to both streets as well as their junction. Due to its specific location, the site is built on intensively, yet without exceeding the overall height level of the area. The mass on the north side goes gradually down and the corner forms a firm figure. In the less important street, the scale of the objects becomes smaller, thus interacting with its surroundings. The re-created St. Anna lane acts as a contemporary link between these two worlds. Moreover, it is possible to climb up from there to a public garden on the hill. Functionally, apartment buildings prevail. The corner block serves as offices and there are shops on the ground level. The lane is lined with small studios for artists and craftsman, thus giving the area a unique character.

Archeologie středověkých domů na Starém Městě pražském (Rybná čp. 682/I.) / The archaeology of the medieval town houses in Prague Old Town (Rybná 682/I.)

Taibl, Pavel January 2017 (has links)
Anotation The archeology of a town house in the Old Town of Prague is one of the most complex themes of medieval research. Rescue archaeological research of 1992, on the area of the parcel no. 690 in Rybná street revealed a large number of serious medieval finds and artifacts of material culture that indicate the change of the early medieval Prague settlement agglomeration of the 12th century in the legally constituted town of the Middle Ages. With the help of detailed analyzes of these archeological situations and artifacts, we are able to give insight into the everyday life of a medieval citizen in the outskirts of the city district, taking into account the previously unknown facts. Keywords Middle age - town - town house - construction relics - material culture - socio-topografic analysis.

Město místo továrny / The City instead of the Factory

Sychrová, Eva January 2011 (has links)
"The urban environment serves many roles. It would also be such that we remember them and looking at them, feel pleasure. "[Kevin Lynch] The proposal deal with the multifunctional building near the city center. The place is located on the pass company Kras . The overall design is based on the analysis and planning studies prepared in the previous semester. The main idea is to make the function part of the city, which will primarily serve residents of the city. A place that is pleasant to meet, for recreation, relaxation and active leisure. Instead of living as well as services, commerce and administration. Instead of a vibrant life where it will be easy to navigate and enjoyable stay. The building is trying to combine the advantages of living downtown housing in the countryside. Town house should be lively. Everywhere something is happening, people stop, where to shop and spend time here. Living in the countryside provides plenty of privacy and tranquility. The proposal is currently trying to combine these advantages. The result is a house that provides plenty of features and incentives to meet and have sufficient facilities (garage). But it also offers a private area surrounded by greenery and overlooking the city features. The architectural appearance of the building seeks to reflect its main function - to provide "living"house. It also seeks a characteristic and easily remembered building in connection with quote Kevin Lynch (see above). This creates a compact three-storey compound in services and garages, which are then apartment buildings with flats of different sizes, each with a balcony or a garden that allows for contact with nature. Loggia are designed in bright colors and add vibrancy and playfulness of the building.

Bürgerhäuser in Templin und Zehdenick

Baier, Christof 22 January 2007 (has links)
This PhD dissertation analyzes baroque and 18th-century town houses in Brandenburg and Prussia. Taking as its starting point the influential role of the Prussian state and its governmental interests, this thesis demonstrates the ways in which these administrative bodies impacted the the general urban character as well as the more specific façades and ground plans of the town houses during the 18th century. I argue, therefore, that in Prussia it was the bureaucracy of the modern state that initiated and organized a widespread urban redevelopment. My aim in this dissertation is to provide a close examination of these houses in order to understand the ways in which they shaped – and continue to shape – the cultural landscape of Brandenburg. To undertake this it is necessary on the one hand to precisely characterize the interrelation between the basic form, the culture of the facade, and the surrounding urban character of the town houses. On the other hand, it is important to take into account the ideologies, governmental regulations and architectural theory pertaining to domestic architecture. Thus, crucial to this project is a methodology that combines careful on-site examinations of the houses with archival research into the files of Prussian administration. This then allows for an integrated historical anaylsis of both the theory of state and the theory of architecture. My dissertation frames this interesting period of urban development with two significant events. Following the destruction of a great fire, the reconstruction of the small city of Templin after 1735 offers an outstanding example for the successful beginning for the new urban program. The reconstruction of the city of Zehdenick after 1801 characterizes the crisis that marked the end of this bureaucratic concept of town planing and town houses.

DŮM NA ÚPATÍ - MĚSTSKÝ DŮM V HISTORICKÉM CENTRU BRNA / HOUSE ON THE FOOTHILL - TOWN HOUSE IN THE HISTORICAL CENTRE

Bímová, Marta January 2013 (has links)
In the grip of streets and Ann's Bakery, near the historical center of Brno, is undeveloped plot of triangular shape. Plot has a specific complex topography and heterogeneous surrounding buildings. The proposed building responds to the urban context in the area and completes currently broken block buildings. Since this is an important visual axis Street Bakery, pointing to the center of the city, is located on the corner of dominant and visually appealing block gallery. A gallery right here is his essence. The unique solution is added gallery trio. To the west is traceable to the axis of Mendel Square, where the Museum of JG Mendel. The axis on the opposite side of the street Hus, which has its premises Museum of Applied Arts and Prazak Palace under the Moravian Gallery.
