The aim of this thesis is a translatological analysis of three major works of Czech literature: the play R.U.R. by Karel Čapek, the novel Babička (Grandmother) by Božena Němcová and the poems collection Maminka (Mother) by Jaroslav Seifert. The translations analyzed in this thesis were made by Kei Kurisu (one of the two R.U.R. translations, Babička), Chino Eiichi (the other R.U.R. translation) and Itaru Iijima (Maminka). I have based this analysis on two different concepts - one by Jiří Levý and the other by Peter Newmark. I focus on the translation phenomena typical for the individual literary forms (drama, prose and poetry) as well as on the phenomena that all three literary forms have in common (the instances of misunderstanding the original, the cases of interpretation (not) following the intention of the original author).

(in English): This M.A. thesis focuses on the translatological analysis of short proses called Histoires Naturelles written by the French author Jules Renard and it also focuses on their Czech translation made by Klementa Laubová at the end of 1911. During its elaboration new facts emerged, according to which Laubová did not work on the translation on her own. All the facts are based on personal correspondence and on a manuscript of translation. These new facts have led to the inclusion of a chapter dealing with the book market situation at the beginning of the 20th century (with a focus on translation), which the periodical newspapers expressed as a "book crisis". The work also focuses on a period fashion wave in a culture of acceptance, using allegories inspired by animal life. And last but not least, it points to the close interconnection of the personalities of the French literary scene with the personalities of the Czech literary translation.

This diploma thesis deals with french idiomatic connections that include names of human body parts. In the first theoretic part, the term "set phrase", or "idiomatic connection" is defined. Afterwards is this part also dedicated to the classification of idioms and to their internal structure and function. In the second analytic part, the selected sample of idioms is formally analyzed, i.e. according to the internal structure of an idiom and also by the semantic view (polysemy, possible interpretations, motivation). Than, the possibilities of syntactic manipulation and internal transformations of idioms are indicated. The main attention is paid to the translatological analysis of the selected sample of idioms and to the possibilities of their translation to the czech language. The aim of this diploma thesis is to observe the degree of equivalence when translating idiomatic connections, or to indicate possibilities of their translation to the czech language. The application output of this work will be the bilingual (Franco-Czech) dictionnary of corresponding idioms.

The aim of this master's thesis is to create an analysis of the Czech and German translations of Roy Jacobsen's novel De usynlige, which was published by Cappelen Damm in 2013. The first part includes a biography of Roy Jacobsen and a literary analysis of his novel. Translators Jarka Vrbová. Gabriele Haefs and Andreas Brunstermann are introduced as well as interviewed. The mainstay of this thesis is to analyse the Czech and German translations. The analysis is focused on the lexical, syntactic and stylistic level and based on Jiří Levý's theory of a faithful and free translation. Afterwards, the translation methods in both translations are deduced and compared with each other. The thesis presents several topics in the field of publishing practices.

The subject of the thesis is the Czech reception of works by French author François Mauriac. Providing a complete overview of prose translations, the thesis analyses the development of Czech critical reflection over the course of a century, focusing on both the epitext and peritext (Genette, 1987) of the editions. The second part of the thesis consists of a translatological analysis of the 1927 novel Thérèse Desqueyroux and two Czech translations, resulting in a verdict regarding the possible publication of a new edition of the translation analysed, i.e. re-edition recommendations, the description of necessary editorial changes, or a proposal for a new "generational" translation. The thesis is focused on analyzing the most common translation shifts in the translations of Santiago Gamboa's novels Perder es cuestión de método (1997) and Necrópolis (2009). The theoretical part is based on the presentation of novels and on the analysis of their reception in Spanish-speaking countries and in the Czech Republic. The work also presents two Czech translators, editors and Czech publishing houses, which published these books. The practical part is devoted to the analysis of translation shifts in both translations, we work here with the theory of expression changes and with the theory of shifts in the translation by Anton Popovic (1975, 1983), specially, we focus on individual shifts (lexical instantiations, transcription, omitting of significance, inserting of significance etc.). This thesis deals with the reception of the works of Michail Bugakov by the Czech community from the 1920s to 1980s. This time frame is set by the publishing of two translations of Bulgakov's novella Fatal Eggs. Using the two translations, published over fifty years apart, this thesis attempts to demonstrate how were Bulgakov's works received by the Czech community and in what context were they understood. The thesis focuses mainly on the impact of the novel in the life and work of Michail Bulgakov. Following that, a picture of the author created by the Czech journalism and commentaries accompanying his works is shown. Through the analysis of these texts the thesis focuses on the influence of ideology on the interpretation of author's works and fate. Further focus is given to the differences of translation styles of both translators. The translatological analysis of selected samples of both translations has been conducted and upon it the methods used by each of the translators have been synthesized. The aim of this thesis is to present the French author Georges Perec in greater detail - his life and works, constraints he used in his experimental literary work, the reception of the author in the Czech and English contexts - and to compare the Czech and English translations of a selected extract from his novel Life A User's Manual. The first part of the thesis deals with the author's life and includes information on his published works. Its second part gives an overview of his texts translated into Czech, as well as of the reception of the writer's work in Czech media. The aim of the following part is to give a similar summary but with respect to the English context, and it sketches out some translation problems English translators encountered while translating Perec's work. The fifth part is dedicated to the writer's masterpiece Life A User's Manual. It outlines the main plot of the novel, the formal constraints Perec bound himself with, and his approach to writing in general. The final part is a comparative translatological analysis of the Czech and English translations of the fifty-first chapter.

The thesis looks at the Czech life of the Flowers for Algernon short story written by Daniel Keyes. It aims to present an analytical comparison of the short story translations and dramatizations created in the Czech cultural environment and to define their invariants. The theoretical part of the thesis informs the reader about the life and work of Daniel Keyes and depicts the process of creation of the short story in question. Furthermore, it outlines its main themes and stylistic features, as well as its reception both in the U. S. and abroad. Special attention is paid to the reception in Czechoslovakia, or rather the Czech Republic, namely to the two short story translations (Černý, 1976; Markus, 2003) and the three original dramatizations (Říhová, 1988; Hruška, 1993; Heger, 2010). All pieces of work are presented in their broader socio-cultural context, with due regard to their authors. This contextualisation lays the foundations for the subsequent translatological analysis, which is based on Gideon Toury's descriptive model (1995). In accordance with Toury, the Czech short stories are seen as products of the target culture. The diploma thesis focuses on the translation of Jaromir Nohavica's work. The aim of the thesis is to define Nohavica's translation style on the basis of detailed translatological analysis of his translations of Bulat Okudzhava and Vladimir Vysotsky. At the same time, the translations of Milan Dvorak and Petr Kovarik are analysed. The analysis is extended by a brief analysis of a song score which works as a verification of a hypothesis whether the chosen translations are songful not only in Jaromir Nohavica's presentation. The theoretical part of the thesis is dedicated to Jaromir Nohavica's personality, particularities of lyrics translation, author song and their authors. Thanks to a complex approach, the diploma thesis describes a translation style of a significant representative of Czech culture which has not been so far individually introduced.
