SOCIAL NEWS : CROWD-SOURCED NEWS FROM SOCIAL TRENDS

Cyriac, Jacob January 2015 (has links)
During the last decade, social media has had a great impact on the way we communicate. It has also expanded our awareness of the world.! However it has become harder for the lay person to find news, because of too many conflicting interests in the mass media industry on one hand, and simply too much free information available on the other! This report documents my study of how social media has affected the way we collect, consume and share news. I describe how democratization of information has made some things easy, but some other things hard - filtering data to find meaningful content has become harder! My studies were targeted mainly at people younger than 30, and mainly in India, and much of its design is informed by problems characteristic to the Indian context. So while I do not explicitly target my end result at the Indian market, a news network by its very nature needs to be global, and this process reflects that.! I go on to use Design Methods including Brainstorming, Participatory Workshops and Service Design theory to arrive at a product that aims to provide people a way to stay up to date with meaningful and relevant news. ! I propose a social network for individuals to exchange news with each other. I try to understand what makes some pieces of information more important than others, and how a network can self filter information so that participants can get high quality content.! In the final result, I describe the framework of this network and how people would contribute to it and consume from it.

Trends and Determinants of up-to-Date Status With Colorectal Cancer Screening in Tennessee, 2002-2008

Veeranki, Sreenivas P., Zheng, Shimin 01 January 2014 (has links)
Background: Screening rates for colorectal cancer (CRC) are increasing nationwide including Tennessee (TN); however, their up-to-date status is unknown. The objective of this study is to determine the trends and characteristics of TN adults who are up-to-date status with CRC screening during 2002-2008. Methods: We examined data from the TN Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System for 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008 to estimate the proportion of respondents aged 50 years and above who were up-to-date status with CRC screening, defined as an annual home fecal occult blood test and/or sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy in the past 5 years. We identified trends in up-to-status in all eligible respondents. Using multivariable logistic regression models, we delineated key characteristics of respondents who were up-to-date status. Results: During 2002-2008, the proportion of respondents with up-to-date status for CRC screening increased from 49% in 2002- 55% in 2006 and then decreased to 46% in 2008. The screening rates were higher among adults aged 65-74 years, those with some college education, those with annual household income ≥$35,000 and those with health-care access. In 2008, the respondents who were not up-to-date status with CRC screening included those with no health-care coverage (adjusted odds ratio [OR] 0.46, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.33-0.63), those aged 50-54 years (OR 0.62, 95% CI 0.46-0.82) and those with annual household income <$25,000 (OR 0.65, 95% CI 0.52- 0.82). Conclusions: TN adults who are up-to-date status with CRC screening are increasing, but not across all socio-demographic subgroups. The results identified specific subgroups to be targeted by screening programs, along with continued efforts to educate public and providers about the importance of CRC screening.

ZŠ / Comics in the Czech Literature Education on secondary school

NOVÁKOVÁ, Lenka January 2013 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the issue of the usage of comic processing in the lessons of literary education at the second grade of the elementary school. The theoretical part defines the basic expressions concerning the area of literary education, the theory of comic, the theory of adaptation, and effective teaching. The set of four educational scripts employing comic processing of classical works of Czech and world literature, highlighting the up-to-date conception of the literary education in accord with demands on the education which is set down by Framework Education Programme for Elementary Education, was created within the practical part. The main aim of scripts was to support the progress in reader´s literacy and the communicative skills. These educational scripts are not only intended for university students, primarily within the didactics of the Czech language and literature, and beginning teachers, but also for experienced pedagogues. The quality of the scripts was proved in practise.

Intelligent Energy-Savings and Process Improvement Strategies in Energy-Intensive Industries / Intelligent Energy-Savings and Process Improvement Strategies in Energy-Intensive Industries

Teng, Sin Yong January 2020 (has links)
(v) Porovnání techniky HTM (Hierarchical Temporal Memory) a duální optimalizace s několika prediktivními nástroji pro podporu managementu provozu v reálném čase. (vi) Implementace umělé neuronové sítě v rámci rozhraní pro konvenční procesní graf (P-graf). (vii) Zdůraznění budoucnosti umělé inteligence a procesního inženýrství v biosystémech prostřednictvím komerčně založeného paradigmatu multi-omics.
