The thesis states that, as economies become more internationalized and as monetary and physical transnational flows increase, the negative externalities associated with these flows also rise. Externalities are distributed unevenly, reproducing North-South patterns, though with new geographies, new agents and partially new dominant forms, making new categories of development necessary, such as the those of the Global North and South. To analyze and refute this, the thesis introduces the concepts of "transnational interference" and "anticooperation". It puts forward the hypothesis that, in North-South relations, in general, the North-South transnational inteferences that are negative for the buen vivir (good living) of the population of the South (a phenomenon termed "anticooperation") are more significant than the positive effects of international aid. These prevailing forms of anticooperation are largely determined by the context and circumstances of each case. The research explores a case study comparing aid and anticooperation interactions between Ecuador and the Spanish State pver the period 2000-2010. The thesis demonstrates that the buen vivir of the impoverished population of the world will be improved through the implementation of coherent development policies and the mitigation of anticooperation phenomena in the North (and South), rather than by focusing on increasing the effectiveness of international aid. / La tesis postula que en la medida que la internacionalización de las economías aumenta y crecen los flujos transnacionales tanto monetarios como físicos, aumentan las externalidades negativas asociadas a esos flujos. Que las externalidades se distribuyen de forma desigual reproduciendo patrones Norte-Sur aunque con geografías, agentes y formas predominantes parcialmente nuevas, por lo cual se hacen necesarias nuevas categorías del desarrollo como las de Norte y Sur Globales. Para constatarlo se introducen dos conceptos nuevos, el de interferencia transnacional y el de anticooperación. Se lanza la hipótesis que afirma que en las relaciones Norte-Sur, por lo general, el conjunto de las interferencias transnacionales que resultan negativas para el buen vivir de la población del Sur (fenómeno al que llamamos anticooperación) prevalece sobre la ayuda internacional. Que esas formas predominantes de anticooperación quedan en gran medida determinadas por el contexto y circunstancias de cada caso de estudio. La investigación desarrolla un estudio de caso en el que se comparan la ayuda y la anticooperación en el marco de las interacciones entre Ecuador y el Estado español durante el periodo 2000-2010. De la tesis se desprende que se conseguirán mayores resultados sobre el buen vivir de la población empobrecida mundial si desde el Norte (y desde el Sur) se despliegan estrategias de mitigación del universo de fenómenos de anticooperación en lugar de apostarlo todo a la agenda de la eficacia de la ayuda internacional.

In conclusion, the results are evaluated and a further development of the project is outlined.
