I detta projekt har jag valt att arbeta med en högre byggnad för att få utsikt, mot parken, Mälaren, och få kontakt med slottet. Byggnaden har många fria ytor för att skapa utrymme för konst och umgänge. I hotellet, med dess kombinerade utställningshall, kan man ha workshops eller visa utställningar som planerades för 2014 av den närbelägna grafiska verkstaden och konstnärsateljén Grafikens Hus. Projektets huvudidé är att ta tillvara på Mariefreds kulturella och konstnärliga värden, stadens historia och stadsliv, och förena dessa med kommersiella syften. Med ateljéverkstäder och en utställningshall i anslutning till hotellet kan förutsättningar skapas för att ge en ökad attraktivitet åt staden. Hotellet kan genom kommunikation med besökare och utställningar ge uppmärksamhet åt och synliggöra Mariefreds  kultur och historia, till exempel 1600-tals slottet Gripsholm som är en viktig del av det svenska kulturarvet. Hotellet kommer fungera kulturellt på så sätt att utställningshallen skapar en mötespunkt/sevärdhet för konstnärer liksom besökare i staden. Relationen till staden och slottet är viktig i sammanhanget då hovet ofta agerat som mecenat för stadens kulturella värden. En silkesfabrik kunde till exempel startas på 1700-talet efter ett brev av konung Karl IX om införande av skattebefrielse. Arkitekturen och konsten kan i detta projekt så att säga gå hand i hand. / In this project I have decided to work with a taller building in order to get a view towards the park, the Lake Mälaren, and to create a connection to the city castle. The building has many open spaces that enables room for art and socializing. In the hotel, with its combined exhibition hall, you are able to hold workshops or show exhibitions from the nearby graphic workshop and artist studio, Grafikens Hus. The main idea of the project is to take care of the cultural and artistic values of Mariefred, the history of the city and urban life, and combine these with commercial purposes. With studio workshops and an exhibition hall associated to the hotel - conditions are created to increase the attractiveness to the city. The hotel can through communication with visitors give attention to and visualize the cultural history of Mariefred, for example the 16th century Gripsholm castle, an important part of Sweden’s cultural heritage. The hotel will have a cultural function in the way the exhibition hall creates a meeting point/sight worth seeing for artists as well as visitors to the city. The relation to the city and the castle is an important part of the context since the Swedish royal court often acted as patron to the cultural values of the city. A silk factory was in the 18th century for example started after a letter by king Karl IX regarding introduction of tax exemptions. Architecture and art can in this project so to speak go hand in hand.
