Neurčité dovětky v angličtině a v češtině / General extenders in English and in Czech

Novotný, Tomáš January 2018 (has links)
Pervasive in spontaneous informal conversation, general extenders (GEs) are vague multiword expressions (e.g. or something (like that), and stuff (like that) vs. nebo něco (takovýho), a tak(ový věci)) that have been shown to fulfil a number of communicative functions, ranging from propositional to expressive. But while the English extenders have received a lot of meticulous attention in nearly four decades of research, the corresponding Czech constructions remain largely overlooked (perhaps with the exception of Tárnyiková 2009 and Novotný & Malá 2018). The current study aims to (1) present a wide range of English and Czech GE forms (collected using the method of collocational frames (Aijmer 2015) and then categorised according to structural similarities, thus suggesting possible GE patterns); and (2) examine their communicative functions in contemporary English and Czech as represented in comparable corpora of informal spoken discourse (Spoken BNC2014 and ORAL2013, respectively). Relying extensively on functional frameworks introduced in previous research (e.g. Overstreet 1999, 2014), this study confirms what has been known about English GEs and investigates the degree of applicability to the respective Czech constructions. A close qualitative analysis of some of the collected GE forms (in total,...

Příběh a jeho "co" a "o čem" / Story and its "what" and "about what"

Špína, Michal January 2011 (has links)
The thesis deals with the question of interpretation of narrative works of fiction in regard to what the text refers to (what is usually termed reference). On the work of three differently focused authors (Frege, Ortega y Gasset, Shklovsky) it studies reference pushed aside as a thing unimportant or even impossible in art. Structuralism, developing mainly in France after 1960, supplants these questions with exploring the literalness of literary works and their inner relations, allowing narratology to arise. Subsequently, Paul Ricoeur aims for the synthesis of structuralism and hermeneutics. Approaching literary work as discourse, he distinguishes the "what" and "what about" of works, following Frege's distinction between sense and reference (meaning), while reference of a work is not descriptive. In Time and Narrative he uses the term refiguration instead of reference and emphasizes the temporal aspect of literary work and its reception. The thesis is closed with a brief interpretation of Budapest, a novel by Chico Buarque (2003).

Elizeus, Natálie January 2016 (has links)
The diploma thesis is focused on beekeeping in the Czech Republic and provides an overview of the development and level of this important agricultural field. The thesis is analyzing the development of selected indicators that had an influence on level of beekeeping in our country in the years 1993-2015. The indicators that the thesis is focused on are numbers of beekeepers and bee colonies, production and consumption of honey, honey export and import and drawing grants. The Czech Republic is aware of the need to support beekeepers through grants for the reason that bees are able to pollinate plants, which is welcome for the agriculture. Bees pollinate about 85 % plants and provide honey and other products such as pollen, royal jelly, propolis, wax and bee venom, which are primarily used in cosmetics, pharmacology and food (processing) industry. The results of analysis of individual indicators serve as a basis for the creation of trends. For selected indicators there are also set out forecasts for future development for two years ahead. The thesis also includes processing and interpretation of the survey that has been carried out among beekeepers. At the end of the thesis there are formulated possible perspectives of beekeeping field and there are also expressed suggestions and recommendations for further development of this sector.
