The optimised design of HVAC systems

Wright, Jonathan A. January 1986 (has links)
The workable design of HVAC (Heating Ventilating and Air Conditioning) systems is based upon sizing the components individually to meet a peak duty of a nominal operating point. Growing economic pressure demands more cost effective and efficient designs, but the appraisal of alternative solutions is limited by short design and construction times. The design of HVAC systems can benefit from the application of numerical optimisation methods as these allow the rapid appraisal of alternative schemes and the sizing of the components simultaneously for criteria such as minimum first cost, operating cost, life—cycle cost or primary energy consumption. Optimisation problems can be categorised according to the characteristics of the functions used to appraise the solutions and those of the constraints on the problem. This thesis discusses the formulation of EVAC system design problems in this context and describes the development of an optimisation procedure which is based upon a data base of manufactured components and operating parameters such as controller setpoints, mass flow rates and temperatures. The thesis describes several objective functions used in the appraisal of solutions and describes the use of constraint functions in restricting the solution to a practicable design. UVAC system optimised design problems can be solved using direct search methods. The implementation of three direct search algorithms is described and the limitations of each discussed. Conclusions are drawn and the characteristics of HVAC system optimised design problems used to make recommendations for the future development of an idealized algorithm. The thesis describes the development and structure of the optimised design program and its integration with an existing suite of simulation programs. The application of the program to the design of example heat recovery systems is given and the potential use of the software in other applications described together with proposals for the development of the procedure as a design tool.

Flow in Ventilating Ducts of Electrical Machinery

Galloway, Leslie C. 05 1900 (has links)
This thesis describes an experimental study of the air flow in ventilating ducts in the stators of electric motors and/or generators of conventional design. The objective was to facilitate prediction of local heat transfer coefficients in ventilating ducts. Various flow phenomena were observed and compared with theoretical predictions. While the theory usually used for similar cases was found o be inapplicable, a related theory was found that checked well with experimental results. A stall phenomenon was observed under certain identified conditions. Useful relationships for predicting the flow details were obtained. The relevance of the work is discussed and future work is proposed. / Thesis / Master of Engineering (MEngr)

Computer Aided Noise Prediction In Heating, Ventilating And Air Conditioning Systems

Gungor, Faruk Emre 01 January 2003 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis aims at preparing a user-friendly software tool for the prediction and analysis of the noise generated in Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Systems elaborating the standardized prediction formulae and data coming from the research studies. For the analysis portion of the software, different types of indoor noise criteria are introduced and implemented in the software to ease the investigation of the level and the quality of the sound perceived by the occupant in a room through such criteria. General software structure and implementation of HVAC elements are explained by different userinterface samples in the thesis. Several case studies are presented to demonstrate the capabilities of the tool prepared in VISUAL BASIC programming language within the scope of the study.

Hotel / Hotel

Lotter, Martin January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of this master’s thesis was to design and elaborate design documentation for the realization of the building of the hotel in the village of Dolní Lomná. The hotel is located on a sloping plot No. 1322/43, in the cadastre unit Dolní Lomná. The design and its implementation respect the local zoning plan. The building is five-storey, with a basement. It has four above-ground floors, the hotel lobby with a reception, service and sports equipment rental, a restaurant with a terrace and hotel rooms and one basement where underground garages are for the guests. The structure is designed as a frame with a load-bearing building envelope. The building is roofed with a warm flat roof, designed as a green extension.

Matějíček, Michal January 2019 (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with the behavior of technical systems of the student dormitory in Brno. The temperature and humidity climate was measured and evaluated in the building. The measurement is then compared with the computer simulation created in DesignBuilder. The geometric model of the building was created in Revit, which supports BIM technology. Based on the evaluation of the experiment, the optimization of the technical systems in the building was proposed.

Análise da eficiência energética do sistema de condicionamento de ar com distribuição pelo piso em ambiente de escritório, na cidade de São Paulo, utilizando o modelo computacional Energyplus. / Energy efficiency analysis of underfloor air distribution (ufad) system for office rooms, at São Paulo city, using the ENERGYPLUS software.

Inatomi, Thais Aya Hassan 06 May 2008 (has links)
The purpose of this research is to evaluate the energy performance of the Underfloor Air Distribution (UFAD) system at office buildings, considering different air loops design and economizer cycles while keeping thermal comfort for the weather data of São Paulo city, Brazil. Simulations were held using the EnergyPlus software version 2.1.0.023, since its numerical models can well represent UFAD systems and economizer cycles. One chamber representing an office room was used as reference for the simulation models. This chamber was developed by Leite (2003) to evaluate the thermal comfort conditions provided by the UFAD system. The curves of temperature distribution obtained from simulation were similar to those experimentally obtained by Leite (2003). Simulations were performed for two different air loops (with and without return air bypass) combined with three different outside air controls. The São Paulo weather data analysis demonstrates that the outside air flow can be increased with the use of economizer cycles, reducing electric energy consumption of the UFAD system. The results of this research indicate that there is a tight relationship between the system air loop design, economizer cycle control and weather data, which reveals that the combination between these parameters can reduce about 34,5% the electric energy consumption of UFAD system at São Paulo city.
