Alternatiewe sieninge van man-wees

Cloete, Gert Johannes 01 January 2002 (has links)
Thesis in Afrikaans with summaries in Afrikaans and English. / Social discourses may have a decisive influence on an individual's way of life. By means of a narrative conversational approach, this study introduces a number of discourses that had or still have an influence on five white Afrikaans-speaking men in the Dutch Reformed Congregation Vereeniging-East. The discourses are: (a) a man is as breadwinner the primary provider for the family; (b) a man is goal~oriented and focused on success; (c) a man is dominant and aggressive; (d) a man does not value emotions and relationships and (e) a man does not change easily. On the other hand the study indicates that men are able to develop alternative ways of being men in spite of social discourses influencing them. / Practical Theology / M.Th. (Pastoral Therapy)

Staatsdorp Vereeniging - 'n kliëntsisteem in maatskaplike werk

Oberholzer, Johan 12 March 2014 (has links)
M.A. (Social Science) / GOVERNMENT VILLAGE VEREENIGING - a client system in social work. Upon closer evaluation of this title the following aspects emerge: - The research was restricted by the brief to upgrade this specific community's quality of life. In the execution of the brief the entire community became the client system, and the system likewise the research area. - Systems theory was used as an avenue of approach because the community as a system can be divided into groups, families and individuals each as a separate sub-system functioning as such in the development programme. In the development programme community work was mainly used. Initially the project, known as II Project Government Village", was undertaken in order to establish a community profile; when the shortcomings in the community emerged, the candidate took the opportunity to launch community work action. The community profile, together with community work served as the context of this literature and empirically founded exercise. The report illustrates the paradigm of researcher being social worker and vice versa.

Gateway to a city: a transport interchange in Vereeniging

Da Silva, Paulo Sousa Neves January 2017 (has links)
Thesis is submitted in partial fulfilment for the degree of Master of Architecture (Professional) to the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment, School of Architecture and Planning at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, 2017 / This research report is an exploration of the public arena of a transport interchange in Vereeniging’s urban centre, and the opportunities created within a zone where many people of different backgrounds converge and interact. Therefore the document looks at various forms of transport converging on a single node and how best to integrate these into a single zone where all can feed off one another and enhance the experience within the public transport realm itself. The divisions of race, class & income cannot be wished away in Vereeniging, therefore the urban context of the inner city needs to be addressed (this indirectly affects the mindsets of the city’s inhabitants). The local informal economy, mini-bus taxi industry, bus services and rail have each appropriated responses to overcome the obstacles of segregation. The entrenched presence of the local informal economy and mini-bus taxi industry and its legal conflict with formal urban systems further fuels their independence. This still young newly found independence can mature in an urban intervention in which new rules of engagement are charted and a new tradition in the built environment begins. Therefore a gateway is a metaphor for the integration of public transport modes into a point of convergence at an urban movement node. It is also here at the threshold of this gateway, in and out of the city, that trade is best exploited and social engagements have the highest potential. It is not about erasing but rather reassembling a viable urban future, through learning from and working within the given conditions / XL2018

The effects of global warming on maize production : a case study based on climatic data for Vereeniging, Gauteng, South Africa

Rudman, Paul James 25 August 2008 (has links)
Global Warming (GW) is a recognised fact, the implications of which have far reaching impacts on almost all aspects of existence of life on Earth. The impacts of GW to humans will be felt socially, economically and environmentally. The aim of this research was to understand the probable effects GW will have on maize production in South Africa. This was done by taking climatic data for Vereeniging (situated in a maize growing region) and analysing it to determine climatic trends. These trends were used alongside the critical values1 used to determine NRHA2 for field crop production. The difference between the winter rainfall values (critical and actual) was found to be 238mm (390mm – 152mm) and summer to be 66.4mm, therefore, the summer rainfall period for Vereeniging was found to be more sensitive to change than the winter rainfall period. This has the implication of affecting the sowing and growing period for maize. The sowing period may shift from October (in the summer sowing season) to early March or April (in the winter sowing season). The average was calculated for the maximum temperature and minimum temperature in order to get an average temperature for the summer and winter months (the same as for rainfall discussed earlier) for Vereeniging. The average temperatures of 13.4°C and 20.1°C for winter and summer respectively are close to the critical values3 for maximum NRHA. This indicates that maize is susceptible to marginal changes. It was also concluded that maize is more susceptible to marginal changes in temperature than for rainfall. The results of this paper show only marginal changes in the variables and that the production of field crops is sensitive to such changes. This susceptibility to changes will result in numerous impacts caused by Global Warming. / Professor. J. T. Harmse

An evaluation of training and development for the South African Police Service : a case of Vereeniging cluster / B.N. Mnisi

Mnisi, Blossom Nomangwane January 2015 (has links)
The study evaluated the training and development in Vereeniging cluster. The South African Police Service is the principal law enforcement institution and has a crucial role in contributing to the safety and security of South African citizens, including those who visit the country. Based on this it is essential that the organisation has skilled employees who will be able to meet the objectives and future challenges of the organisation. Training and development, therefore, is regarded as an important tool by an organisation, to facilitate the learning and development of all employees of the South African Police Service. Training and development identify, assure and develop individual competencies that will assist them to perform their current and future jobs. The research was conducted in the Vereeniging cluster. Only six stations were considered part of the target population. The respondents were randomly selected from the following stations: Heidelberg, Meyerton, Kliprivier, DeDeur, Ratanda and Vaal Marina. The systematic sampling method was used, where each unit had a chance of being selected. The duty list was utilised to obtain the sample. Structured questionnaires were utilised to obtain the responses from the respondents. The results of the findings indicated that employees were not satisfied about the recruitment and selection procedure and need assessment is not done before employees are sent for training. Respondents indicated that training equipment is not sufficient to assist them to acquire more knowledge during the facilitation of the learning programme. The results also highlighted that post-training appraisal is not done after each learning programme, which is important to determine the need for re-training, if any. The study concludes and recommends that the SAPS should focus on ensuring that the skills development facilitators understand the primary role of skills development. Training practices should be in line with the training standards and requirements and should be systematic and transparent / M Development and Management--North-West University, Vaal Triangle Campus, 2015.

School climate as a cause of school dropout

Sinclair, Dorothea Wendy 11 February 2014 (has links)
M.Ed. / Research teams from the Department of Educational Sciences of the Rand Afrikaans University (RSA) and the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Social Ecology of the Ben Gurion University (Israel) have joined hands in a research project. Knowledge, experience and expertise were pooled in an endeavour to expose the causes leading to the dropout phenomenon amongst adolescents worldwide, and more specifically within their own countries. The development of prevention programmes to address the problem will be introduced in follow-up studies with a goal of reducing the number of school dropouts. The aim of this study is to compare disadvantaged standard seven at-risk and not at-risk pupils in order to determine whether or not school climate could be considered an influencing factor in early school leaving. The method of the research is twofold. A literature study constitutes the first part in which terminology, concepts, definitions, causes and consequences of dropout are discussed. The emphasis is placed on school climate in general and the relation between school climate and academic achievement in particular. This was followed by an empirical investigation to determine whether there are significant differences between at-risk and not at-risk standard seven pupils with regard to their perception of school climate. These pupils were identified by their teachers and their replies measured in a questionnaire. The empirical investigation involved standard seven pupils affiliated to five high schools in the Pretoria-Witwatersrand-Vereeniging area. In total, 734 pupils answered the questionnaire. The information was processed at the Statistical Consultation Service of the Rand Afrikaans University.

Britz, Jurgens Johannes January 1979 (has links)
Dissertation (MA)--University of Pretoria, 1979. / gm2014 / Historical and Heritage Studies / Unrestricted
