Fyziologická a proteomická charakterizace vlivu abiotických stresů na ozimou formu brukve řepky olejky / The physiological and proteomic characterisation of winter oilseed rape upon abiotic stress

Urban, Milan January 2017 (has links)
- Ph.D. thesis - Milan Urban, 2017 In some years, the agricultural production of oilseed rape, an important crop in the Czech Republic, is - besides biotic stress - facing the problem of damage caused by frost or drought. Together with special attention paid to proteins revealing responses between crop genotypes with differential abiotic stress tolerance levels we reviewed possible applications of proteomic results in crop breeding programs aimed at an improvement of crop stress tolerance (paper 1). For first original result, cold temperature was imposed upon non-vernalized plants in the stage of leaf rosette. The article (paper 2) shows a significant correlation between frost tolerance (FT), dehydrin (DHN) accumulation, and photosynthetic acclimation in five cultivars (cvs). Newly, the specific DHN D97 was shown to accumulate and other DHNs were shown to have qualitative differences in accumulation. These results imply that proper FT assessment is based on rapid photosynthetic acclimation together with higher accumulation of protective compounds. Drought stress (paper 3) was imposed in the water- demanding stem prolongation phase before flowering, because late-spring drought before and during flowering decreases the yield and seed quality significantly. This paper newly describes two water-uptake...

Vodú Chic: Cuba's Haitian Heritage, the Folkloric Imaginary, and the State

Viddal, Grete Tove 06 June 2014 (has links)
Hundreds of thousands of Haitian agricultural laborers arrived in Cuba to cut cane as the Cuban sugar industry was expanding between the 1910s and the 1930s, and many settled permanently on the island. Historically, Haitian laborers occupied the lowest strata in Cuban society. Until relatively recently, the maintenance of Haitian traditions in Cuba was associated with rural isolation and poverty. Today however, the continuation of Haitian customs is no longer associated with isolation, but exactly the opposite. Cuba's Haitian communities are increasingly linked with cultural institutes, heritage festivals, music promoters, and the tourism industry. In Cuba's socialist economy, "folklore" is a valuable resource that demonstrates the unity of a multi-racial and multi-ethnic nation and attracts tourists. Music, dance, and rituals associated with Vodú have been re-imagined for the public stage. The "folkloric imaginary" creates new careers and opportunities for people of Haitian descent in Cuba. Haitiano-cubanos themselves have found innovative ways to transform the once abject into the now exotic, and are currently gaining a public presence in Cuba through folkloric performance. / African and African American Studies

Využití dešťové vody v rodinném domě a její ekonomické zhodnocení / SUDS Application

Němeček, Roman January 2016 (has links)
This thesis deals with the issue of rainwater management in a family house. It is divided into a theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part contains a literary research pertaining to legislature in the outlined field, describes current solutions to rainwater management as well as history of this issue and explains reasons for it is growing importance on a general scope. The practical part of the thesis contains assessment of factors influencing the acquisition costs as well as the system maintenance costs. Three versions of the system are in consideration taking intoaccount the number of persons occupying the family house. Factual financial costs are calculated allowing for water saving where the rainwater can be utilized for i.e. washing clothes or toilet flushing. The balance sheet partly contains the calculation of financialreturnability. The house that served as the subject of this thesis is located in in the author is domicile in the village of Arnoltice, Děčín district. The final part of the thesis summarizes the treated issue and explains it is importance not only from the financial point of view but mainly from the perspective ofits favourable impact on natural environment.

Hospodaření s šedými a dešťovými vodami / Management of gray water and rain water

Kocourková, Michaela January 2017 (has links)
Evolution and advancements of human activity is unstoppable, still we should not forget about basic natural processes which proceed no matter how man can influence them. Water is one of the main constructors of life and is necessary for function of everything live on the planet Earth. It often is categorized among the inexhaustible resources, still there lacks enough drinkable water. It is consumption grows in recent years with fast development of cities. It is the most important part of life on Earth and with urbanization and anthropogenic interference water is negatively affected and thus it is processes in nature. Interfering with water cycle makes for higher occurrences of droughts and floods, the quality of water streams suffers. Urban areas lack the surface where water could soak into the subsoil and underground water resources shrink. Through all these influences with which we affect natural water cycles the need for water and its consumption grows in our societies. For effective use of water comes up the idea of using not only the drinkable water but waste water and other types as well. Sources can be various, rain water, reused water. The focal point of this thesis is to be the impetus of discussion concerning the use of rain water and directly cleaning and reusing the water which comes straight from our homes. Rain water fills up underground water resources and also could be used in place of potable water. Substituting the potable water in activities and industries where such a high quality water is not needed and could be easily replaced with grey water. Grey water, being the waste water that comes from our bathrooms, is easily cleaned and can be used for various necessities. Current state where the potable water is used in absolute majority of human life appears to be extremely wasteful and unecological. Use of grey water and rain water is a possibility of ecological and thrifty water management which could prevent environmental damages and save water resources for the next generations.

Imagined Voodoo: Terror, Sex, and Racism in American Popular Culture

McGee, Adam Michael 04 June 2016 (has links)
I analyze the historical and cultural processes by which American racism is reproduced, approaching the issue through the lens of "imagined voodoo" (as distinct from Haitian Vodou). I posit that the American Marine occupation of Haiti (1915-34) was crucial in shaping the American racial imaginary. In film, television, and literature, imagined voodoo continues to serve as an outlet for white racist anxieties. Because it is usually found in low-brow entertainment (like horror) and rarely mentions race explicitly, voodoo is able to evade critique, disseminating racism within a culture that is now largely--albeit superficially--intolerant of overt racism. / African and African American Studies

Příprava a charakterizace nástřiků hydroxyapatitu deponovaných technologii hybridního vodou-stabilizovaného plazmového hořáku z vodných roztoků / Fabrication and characterization of solution precursor hydroxyapatite coatings deposited via hybrid water-stabilized plasma gun

Antoš, Zdeněk January 2018 (has links)
Hydroxyapatite coatings have been used as a barrier between a metal core of replacement and living tissue for long time in medicine. Plasma spray is a typical technology for preparation these coatings. This thesis concerns a new plasma spray technology with hybrid system of arc stabilization (WSP-H). Simultaneously it uses an innovative method of feeding the initial material in a form of water suspension (SPPS). The aim of this thesis was to produce water solutions of hydroxyapatite and make coatings with WSP-H. These coatings were characterized in terms of their morfology, chemical and phase composition. Their biocompatibility was tested by a cultivation and an analysis of RAW 264.7 and MG-63 cells. The coatings made by SPPS have a very rough surface which is suitable for biological application. The biocompatibility testing discovered that the coatings will by tolerated in a human body very well. This method of production of hydroxyapatite coatings could be a good replacement of older methods after a better optimalisation of the processing parameters and after reaching purity of coating.
