Friction Bit Joining of Dissimilar Combinations of GADP 1180 Steel and AA 7085 – T76 Aluminum

Atwood, Lorne Steele 01 June 2016 (has links)
Friction Bit Joining (FBJ) is a method used to join lightweight metals to advanced high-strength steels (AHSS). The automotive industry is experiencing pressure to improve fuel efficiency in their vehicles. The use of AHSS and aluminum will reduce vehicle weight which will assist in reducing fuel consumption. Previous research achieved joint strengths well above that which was required in three out of the four standard joint strength tests using DP980 AHSS and 7075 aluminum. The joints were mechanically tested and passed the lap-shear tension, cross-tension, and fatigue cycling tests. The t-peel test configuration never passed the minimum requirements. The purpose of continuing research was to increase the joint strength using FBJ to join the aluminum and AHSS the automotive industry desires to use specifically in the t-peel test. In this study FBJ was used to join 7085 aluminum and GADP1180 AHSS. The galvanic coating on the AHSS and its increased strength with the different aluminum alloy required that all the tests be re-evaluated and proven to pass the standard tests. FBJ is a two-step process that uses a consumable bit. In the first step the welding machine spins the bit to cut through the aluminum, and the second step applies pressure to the bit as it comes in contact with the AHSS to create a friction weld.

VIK, Radovan January 2016 (has links)
The first part briefly defines the theory of the creation of educational materiál. The following chapters describe the history of the fusion welding, the aluminum and its alloys, definitions of basic electrical and welding terminology. Briefly is described health and safety during welding work and fire protection. The following sections describe in detail the hand welding of aluminum and its alloys, method 131 (MIG), welding machines, equipment, protective gases, gas cylinders, pressure reducing valves. Another part is focused on the defects generated during welding of aluminum and its detection and iterpretation. The final part discusses the requirements for qualification of welders.

Quality monitoring of projection welding using machine learning with small data sets

Koal, Johannes, Hertzschuch, Tim, Zschetzsche, Jörg, Füssel, Uwe 19 January 2024 (has links)
Capacitor discharge welding is an efficient, cost-effective and stable process. It is mostly used for projection welding. Real-time monitoring is desired to ensure quality. Until this point, measured process quantities were evaluated through expert systems. This method takes much time for developing, is strongly restricted to specific welding tasks and needs deep understanding of the process. Another possibility is quality prediction based on process data with machine learning. This method can overcome the downsides of expert systems. But it requires classified welding experiments to achieve a high prediction probability. In industrial manufacturing, it is rarely possible to generate big sets of this type of data. Therefore, semi-supervised learning will be investigated to enable model development on small data sets. Supervised learning is used to develop machine learning models on large amounts of data. These models are used as a comparison to the semi-supervised models. The time signals of the process parameters are evaluated in these investigations. A total of 389 classified weld tests were performed. With semi-supervised learning methods, the amount of training data necessary was reduced to 31 classified data sets.

Optimalizace svařovacích parametrů pro bezkontaktní svařovací technologie vybraných termoplastů / Optimization of welding parameters for welding contactless technologies of selected thermoplastics

BRŮHA, Stanislav January 2013 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the technology of noncontact hot plate welding and hot gas welding and with the optimizing of welding parameters of the chosen thermoplastics, especially of POM and PPA. The individual chapters in the theoretical part focus on following topics: technology of noncontact hot plate welding, technology of noncontact hot gas welding, description of the test welding machines and tools, main process parameters and evaluation of the advantages and disadvantages of each technology. In the practical part the welding parameters are optimized by the Design of Experiment systematic, the short-term capability machine and the microtome analysis are evaluated. In the end there are the results of the welding parameters optimization and comparison of noncontact welding technologies.
