Podlahová, Klára January 2016 (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with the topic of holiness in fine arts in all three parts, namely in theoretical, didactic and fine arts level. The first part of the theoretical level focuses on the concept of holiness and individualization of experience with holiness with respect to manifestation of the category in a broad art context. With the use of specialist literature, the second section of the theoretical research follows on obtained findings about the holiness concept and it also deals with sacral space of The St. Wenceslas' Chapel at The Cathedral of St. Vitus and The Chapel of St. Cross at The Karlštejn Castle with regard to the possibility of a strong psychological effect from these venues. The didactic level is the logical outcome and a free inspiration of the theoretical part. It follows not only on the sacral space of both chapels but it also deals with secular usage of pupils. The main aim of all tasks is to guide pupils to think about category of holiness via their own visual expression in cross-subjects connection, that is with regard to social, cultural and historical context. The authorial fine arts part takes account of many impacts coming from the previous parts. The result is a series of six paintings out of which two can be considered primary experiments. It is mainly personal...

Joura, Adam January 2012 (has links)
The thesis deal with transformations of st. Wenceslas symbol and his cult in the Czech press around breaking points of Czech 20th century history. It asks about impact of contemporary policy and incidents on presentation of st. Wenceslas symbol, then about parts of st. Wenceslas cult and finally about connection of this symbol with other national symbols. The thesis is based on the assumtion that national identity is constructed through collective memory of members of the nation, appropriate symbology and history interpretation. Research uses qualitative metods (discourse analysis). Sample is made of Czech (mostly) statewide press articles that are related to st. Wenceslas and his cult, from the period around the st. Wenceslas day (28th September), in several years intervals around appointed breaking points (1918, 1938, 1939, 1945, 1948, 1968 and 1989). It has been found that 1. st. Wenceslas symbol represents unchanging connection of the church and the nation in the case of Catholic perspective, 2. in danger it mobilizes and symbolizes the statehood and the strength of the nation in case of the nationalistic use and 3. it can support legitimity of new established regime. Mocenské postavení prvních Ronovců a jejich pozice v české středověké společnosti / Power of the First Generations of the Ronov Noble Family and Their Position Within Czech Mediaeval Society

Váňa, Jan January 2014 (has links)
Diploma thesis Power of the First Generations of the Ronov Noble Family and Their Position Within Czech Mediaeval Society was dealing with the position and power of the first three generations of the representatives of Ronov noblemen in the direct line towards Hynek from Dubá. In the prosopographical part of the thesis the lines of testimony were analysed and these proved clearly that the maximum of their court career was occurring during the reign of Wenceslaus the First. This maximum is also reflected in the other part of the thesis - which is the analysis of possession- holding. At the age of Wenceslaus the First Ronov noblemen built up a vast area of their particular possessions in Northern Bohemia and gradually they were developing colonisation of this region. Even though Ronov noble family did not take up any posts at the court, the exception is the position of Budysin administrator, they created a very tight connection to Premyslid kings due to the common childhood with Wenceslaus the First and they also supported him politically and also militarily in his inner and foreign policy. After the death of Castoslov from Zitava the position of power in the direct family line began to deteriorate, the peak of power was now for Lichtenburg family. The minimum of the court career comes after their left the...

Tobiáš z Benešova (z Bechyně). Biskup - Hospodář - Politik / Tobiáš z Benešova (Thobias of Benešov). Bishop - Manciple - Politician

Trojan, David January 2021 (has links)
Anotation The Bohemian kingdom lost its ruler and shortly after that the throne of St. Adalbert lost its bishop; Tobias of Benešov (bishop 1278-1296, known as Tobias of Bechyně) succeeded Jan III. in hardly enviable conditions under the regency of Ota's V. of Brandenburg. Despite that (or maybe thanks to that) he succeeded in continuing the reform of the Diocese of Prague not only in the ecclesiastical management, but also in settling the individual bishopric's districts' issues of property and economic. A set of more than 200 formularies, also known as The Formulary of Tobias of Bechyně, as well as further first-hand or indirect sources, allow us to recognize those issues. This section comprises of an economic history in a narrower sense and also the history of settlement, archaeology and other related branches. As the name suggests, I intend to view Tobias' personality mainly from three essential points of view - firstly as an administrator of the diocese who is responsible for the condition of his subordinate and entrusted clergy, secondly as a responsible administrator of a large property domain and finally as a politically active person. The position of the bishop as the head of the local church necessarily depended on his political assets - especially in the kingdom - financial security and the...

Kostel sv. Václava v Praze na Smíchově. Otázka historismu a novorenesance. / The Church of St. Wenceslas in Prague-Smíchov. The issues of historicism and Neo-Renaissance

Klinerová, Adéla January 2014 (has links)
This thesis is presenting the church of St. Wenceslas in Prague-Smíchov and also the issues of historicism and Neo-Renaissance, which are directly connected to this religious building. The introductory chapter of the thesis is depicting the historical and urban development of Prague historical suburb Smíchov that contributed to the creation of its church. The main part of the thesis is dedicated to the matter of selecting the architect. This part observes the circumstances of the architectural competition and compares the projects of participating architects. Following part of the thesis is consecrated to the decoration programme of the church of St. Wenceslas. Applied art is included only marginally. The conclusion has the objective of classifying the building of the church of St. Wenceslas into the wider context of central European architecture and religion painting. This thesis would not have been achieved without archival materials and historical sources, including especially architectural plans and the documentation administrated once by the parish office of the church of St. Wenceslas in Smíchov.

Dílo Philippa de Mézières (c. 1327 - 1405) jako historický pramen / Philippe de Mézières's (c. 1327 - 1405) Works as a Historical Source

Severýn, Martin January 2017 (has links)
Although Philippe de Mézières (ca 1327-1405) was born into a not very influential gentry family from northern France, his steep career brought him to the Holy Land. As a diplomat and an ardent supporter of the idea of the Crusades, he got to visit the most important European royal courts, thus securing the attention of historians. He consciously reflects the political and social climate in Europe at the time, he explores religious issues and even own experiences - in short, de Mézières vast literary work is one of the most remarkable images of Europe during the late Middle Ages and the thinking of a medieval man of a high social status. Thanks to Philippe de Mézières' presence at the Royal Court of Charles IV in Prague and their likely meeting in Paris in 1378, we can trace evident links to Luxembourg politics in his work, to the Czech Kingdom and even to Charles IV himself, including his son Wenceslas. As a Crusades theoretician, de Mézières got himself involved in the highest levels of European politics, yet he constantly emphasized the need for morality, peace and cohesiveness in the courts. The thesis uses an example of one of de Mézières' later works, his Letter to Richard II (Epistre au roi Richarti, 1395), to explore diplomatic ties in Western Europe in the fourteenth century and pursues...

České drama v době moderny: obrazy vůdce / Czech Drama in Early Modernism: The Portrayal of Leaders

Pospíšil, Jan January 2021 (has links)
The thesis constitutes the analysis of selected Czech dramas from the beginning of the 20th century representing various portrayals of national leaders. In my view, the dramas are Apollonian images of a kind representing the dreams of their creators about the strength and greatness, both individual and national. That is because, on one hand, the national leader is an exceptional individual, an exquisite human specimen and as such he or she corresponds to Nietzsche's characterization of a tragic hero as the highest phenomenon of the will. But at the same time, he or she is a national educator. Individual works represent various forms of how the leader educates and edifies the nation and whether he or she leads by command or by example. The dramas show us the leaders, who not only tame, purify, but also urge to growth those, whom they lead. The approach of the Czech playwrights is essentially mythopoetic. Their works constitute contributions to the creation or re-creation of national mythology, in other words, they deal with the meaning of the existence of the nation, or the national condition. They represent a dialogue or a polemic with one particular national mythology formed at the time that of T. G. Masaryk as he stated it in his works Česká otázka (1895), Naše nynější krise (1895), and Jan Hus...

Překladová technika z latiny do staroslověnštiny na základě Gumpoldovy legendy a Druhé staroslověnské legendy o sv. Václavu / The translation technique from Latin to Old Church Slavonic on the basis of the Gumpold's legend and the Second Old Church Slavonic Life of Saint Wenceslas

Spurná, Kateřina January 2017 (has links)
The Translation Technique from Latin to Old Church Slavonic on the Basis of Gumpold's Legend and the Second Old Church Slavonic Life of Saint Wenceslas Kateřina Spurná Summary This dissertation analyses the translation technique from Latin to Old Church Slavonic on the basis of Gumpold's Legend (Gump) from the end of the 10th century and its translation, the Second Old Church Slavonic Life of Saint Wenceslas (VencNik), which was written in early Přemyslid Bohemia probably in the second half of the 11th century. The introductory chapters provide the basic characteristics of the Gump and deal with its preservation in manuscripts and other Latin and Old Church Slavonic legends of St Wenceslas. Afterwards, attention is focused on the analysis of the VencNik, its preservation in manuscripts of Russian provenance and the basic phonetic and morphological characteristics of the text. These chapters are followed by a new edition of the VencNik, in which the Old Church Slavonic text is presented in the form actually preserved in manuscripts (unlike the earlier edition of Josef Vašica from 1929, who tried to reconstruct the original version), and compared with the partly revised and supplemented edition of the Gump. The edition of the Old Church Slavonic text is followed by a brief chapter on the biblical quotations...

České země a avignonské papežství v letech 1378-1419, diplomatické aspekty / The Czech lands and the avignon papacy in the period 1378-1419, diplomatic aspects

Vlková, Tereza January 2012 (has links)
0 ABSTRACT In my thesis I focus on the political situation in the Kingdom of Bohemia and the Kingdom of France during the Great Western Schism, particularly its first two thirds. I put emphasis on the personality of Honoré Bovet, who was a diplomat and a messenger of the French king and who visited the court of the Bohemian king, Wecleslas IV. in 1399 My work is based on primary and secondary sources and scientific and specialised literature concerning the subject mentioned above. In addition I made use of my one- semester study program in France where I attended the lectures of and consultations with French medieval historians. First I describe in the thesis the ecclesiastical and political situation in both kingdoms. The next chapters are dedicated to the personality of Honoré Bovet and his writings related to his opinion on the Great Western Schism and the church in general. As a result of the research I present a general attitude of the French Kingdom to the Bohemian Kingdom, particularly king Wenceslas IV, in the period of the Great Western Schism and the dual papacy. Moreover, based on his writings I express Bovet's view of the Schism and the personalities involved in the Schism.
