Women’s employment has been discussed from many different points of view. Economists stress the reasons for hiring women and the economic consequences of such an act. Their books show; the relation of women’s employment to the profit motive,stress the significance of women as a vast potential labour supply, indicate such problems as arise because of the unorganized state of the female labour market,and discuss the incidence of their entrance into industry upon male employment. Other books have been written from a humanitarian standpoint. These attempt to show certain working conditions experienced by women which call for a remedy. They discuss hours of work, sanitary conditions,wage scales,and other problems in an attempt to arouse interest and bring about social reform and legislative measures. Still other books, frequently statistical and sociological, deal with the social problems which the entrance of women into industry have created in the institution of the home. These may question the advisability of mothers working and take stands as to the effect of employment on child birth, the marriage rate and age, the amount of divorce,and other problems, or they may discuss the effect upon the marriage relationship or the bringing up of children. They may refer to the manner in which the functions of the home are being taken over by outside agencies,or the diminishing parental control. Those written by the feminists state the social and economic aspects which justify the employment of women. They usually raise such issues as the effect of employment upon freedom. They suggest possible future developments to minimize the present problems raised by women working. Esta é uma pesquisa qualitativa, que adota a perspectiva dos estudos psico-sócio-culturais e tem por objetivo compreender a experiência de ser mulher na atualidade diante das solicitações do mundo profissional e da vida familiar, que se norteiam por uma ética da excelência. A compreensão sobre o tema se deu a partir das análises dos conteúdos dos depoimentos de seis mulheres, sendo três casadas e três solteiras, integrantes da camada social média e, profissionalmente ativas. Suas falas revelaram sentimentos, contradições, crenças e aspirações que permitiram perceber como elas experienciam sua identidade feminina. Seus depoimentos foram gravados e, posteriormente, transcritos literalmente. As considerações feitas a partir das análises apontaram, entre outros aspectos, que: a mulher atual entende que tanto a esfera familiar quanto a profissional, fazem parte de sua vida como um todo, não havendo razão para optar pela vivência de apenas uma delas. A profissão é vista, não somente, como a realização de um ofício por afinidade, mas sim como a obtenção de uma boa remuneração. As exigências, tanto nos âmbitos profissional quanto doméstico, levam a mulher atual a reconfigurar suas relações com as pessoas de uma forma geral, sobretudo, com as que compõem sua família, fazendo-a modificar a maneira como desempenha seu papel familiar. Their words reveal feelings, contradictions, believes and aspirations that show to us how they have been experienced their female identity. Their testimonies were taped and after literally transcribe. The considerations made about the analyses showed, besides others aspects, that: the actual woman understands that as in a familiar atmosphere as in a professional atmosphere, both sides been part of their lives together, hadn't been reason to opt for to live one side only. The profession has been seen like the realization of a work for affinity, but like the obtainable of a good remuneration. The exigency, as in profession as in domestic atmosphere, get the actual woman reconfigured their relations with the other people in a general form, above all, with that composed her families, has made changed how she represent her familiar role.
