Violence by intimate partner during pregnancy is a very important theme for public health. Though it is possible to find in the literature several articles on this problem, few have reported the association of this violence with maternal and personal violence antecedents. This is a nested, population-based control case study and it aimed to investigate the association of intimate partner during pregnancy with maternal and personal antecedents among pregnant women registered in the pre-natal examination by the Strategy for Family Health of the Sanitary District II in Recife, Pernambuco, between July 2005 and December 2006. One thousand one hundred twenty women that found themselves above the thirtieth pregnancy week were interviewed. The prevalence found were: 30.9% experienced intimate partner during pregnancy; 38.8% physical aggression before 15 years; 22.9% physical aggression after 15 years; 36.4% had a life experience of mother aggression; 10.4% sexual violence before 15 years and 6.3% of sexual violence after 15 years. The multivariate analysis was carried out through logistic regression. The women who reported intimate partner during pregnancy presented a greater probability of experiencing physical aggression before 15 years (OR = 2.10), physical aggression after 15 years (OR = 1.71), life experience of mother aggression (OR = 1.50) and sexual violence before 15 years (OR = 1.78). The acknowledgment and identification of the perpetuation of the violence cycle in the history of women, particularly in this delicate phase of change that is pregnancy, can contribute to preventing and fighting this damage.

Violência doméstica contra a mulher : prevenção, repressão e políticas públicas no Brasil / Domestic violence against women:prevention, repression and public policies in Brazil.

Cavalcanti, Stela Valéria Soares de Farias 22 September 2006 (has links)
This research work deals with the system for the prevention and repression of domestic violence against women in Brazil, considered one of the most serious human rights violations. The principles of equality, public policies and affirmative actions for the promotion of isonomic laws for the different genders are also discussed. In the present study, domestic violence, apart from being a crime, is also treated as one of the most insidious forms of discrimination, intolerance and disrespect for human dignity. In addition, the study makes the distinction between domestic and non-domestic violence, in order to prevent them from receiving the same treatment. Further, the main causes and consequences of this kind of crime, as well as the profile of the victims and aggressors, are analyzed based on statistical data on domestic violence against women in Brazil and in other countries. Women rights are presented as part of the human rights, according to the most important treaties published by the United Nations and by the Organization of American States. The study includes the analysis of the models for the prevention of domestic violence used in European and Latin American countries. Also included are the penal legislation and the public policies developed in Brazil after the 1988 Constitution to implement the principle of equality (see art. 5º, I). In this sense, the limitations of the Law nº 9.099/95 and the sanctions included in the Brazilian Penal Code to repress this kind of offense are discussed. Finally, the study presents proposals in order to promote equality between men and women in both social and family relations, with a view to prevent and punish the domestic violence in Brazil, through legislative changes and effective public actions. 5º, I).

Postavení žen v romské komunitě / Position of women in Romany community

KULHÁNKOVÁ, Renata January 2010 (has links)
Key topic of the thesis is a social status of Romany women within the community and from it resulting selected negative aspects. The theoretical part clearly informs readers about a traditional position and from it resulting roles of a Romany woman. It adverts to her changes in position that were made due to an effect of assimilatory policy of the 50{\crq}s and 60{\crq}s and negative aspects, which are a consequence of an inferior position of Romany women. The practical part deals with the negative aspects in detail {--} prostitution, domestic violence, low education and unemployment. Result of the thesis is setting of hypotheses on the basis of the information gathered from personal data analysis and semi-standardized interviews with Romany women providing sexual services and Romany women that became victims of domestic violence.
