from a psychosocial boarding. Presenting the description-cultural constituent that had
originated stereotype of the pigeon and that they influence the imaginary one in the present
time, one searched to differentiate them of inherent the biological factors to this bird. Both
neither are imaginary part of the popular one and determine behaviors and attitudes in an
ecological relation nor always balanced. The relation human being with the natural
environment was modified to the long one of the centuries, until propitiating the domination
and I overwhelm it of many species. The internal organization of the society also favored the
suppliment of the necessities spirituals human beings, and in this way the first birds had been
domesticated to revive the life of its owners. The study it was carried through in the Praça da
Bandeira, in the city of Campina Grande, Paraíba, Brazil, for this area to present a central and
commercial localization in the city, which provides the intense traffic to it of passer-bys, and
for also presenting a population of pigeons that remains fixed in the place. The symbolic
constituent had been evaluated with theoretical in the Theory of the Social Representations
and methodological base in the Theory of the Central Nucleus. One searched to discover the
structure and the anchorage of the social representations. The data had been gotten from the
free association of ideas, of which had participated 112 people. In the treatment of the data
software EVOC was used, and the results had parallel indicated the existence of a
representation structuralized around the pigeon idealized to the biological pigeon. It was
registered trend to the religious projection on the animal, therefore I appeal it affectiveemotional
is intense. The distinction between the emblem and the reality was clear, when the
imaginary profile, as part of the symbol, is remained in the virtuous conception while the
biological aspects and ambient they come in the daily one, or either, in the direct contact with
the animal. The anchorage delineates the relation historical human being with the pigeon

managing action of the environment / Este estudo apresenta uma contribuição para investigações do aspecto urbano das questões
ambientais a partir de uma abordagem psicossocial. Apresentando os constituintes históricoculturais
que originaram o estereótipo do pombo e que influenciam o imaginário na
atualidade, buscou-se diferenciá-los dos fatores biológicos inerentes a esta ave. Ambos fazem
parte do imaginário popular e determinam comportamentos e atitudes numa relação ecológica
nem sempre equilibrada. A relação humana com o ambiente natural foi modificada ao longo
dos séculos, até propiciar a dominação e o subjugo de muitas espécies. A organização interna
da sociedade também favoreceu o suprimento das necessidades espirituais humanas, e neste
caminho as primeiras aves foram domesticadas para reavivar a vida de seus donos. O estudo
foi realizado na Praça da Bandeira, na cidade de Campina Grande, Paraíba, por esta área
apresentar uma localização central e comercial na cidade, que lhe proporciona o intenso
tráfego de transeuntes, e por também apresentar uma população de pombos que permanece
fixa no local. Os constituintes simbólicos foram avaliados com base teórica na Teoria das
Representações Sociais e metodológica na Teoria do Núcleo Central. Buscou-se descobrir a
estrutura e a ancoragem das representações sociais. Os dados foram obtidos a partir da
associação livre de idéias, da qual participaram 112 pessoas. No tratamento dos dados foi
usado o software EVOC, e os resultados indicaram a existência de uma representação
estruturada em torno do pombo idealizado paralelamente ao pombo biológico. Registrou-se a
tendência à projeção religiosa sobre o animal, pois o apelo afetivo-emocional é intenso. Existe
clara a distinção entre o emblema e a realidade, quando o perfil imaginário, como parte do
símbolo, mantém-se na concepção virtuosa enquanto os aspectos biológicos e ambientais vêm
à tona no cotidiano, ou seja, no contato direto com o animal. A ancoragem delineia a relação
humana com o pombo sob parâmetros semelhantes aos historicamente originais.
Transformações representacionais se apresentam num esboço de incorporação de informações
sanitárias recentes. Esta pesquisa corrobora a relevância da Teoria das Representações Sociais
como recurso teórico-metodológico numa perspectiva de contribuição do conhecimento
vernacular inserido numa ação educativa e gestora do meio ambiente
