Background: Niche corporate banks play a crucial role in strengthening SMEs' access to capital. These niche banks, which differ from the traditional big banks, have proven to be sought after by many small businesses looking for funding avenues to support and expand their operations. In an era of increased competition and regulation in the banking sector, it is particularly important to understand how these smaller banks balance risk and innovation in their lending strategies. By highlighting both quantitative and qualitative aspects of credit assessment, as well as how these banks manage relationships and risks, the study contributes to a deeper understanding of the dynamics of Sweden's credit market, which is essential for economic growth and stability Purpose: The purpose of the study is to analyze the credit granting process at niche corporate banks in Sweden focused on the banks' credit strategies, risk assessment and the importance of the customer relationship. Methodology: The study is based on a qualitative research method with a deductive approach. Where data collection has consisted of interviews with employees of niche corporate banks. Furthermore, the empirical information has been set against existing theories and research in the subject. Conclusion: The study shows that niche corporate banks play a decisive role in providing capital to small and medium-sized companies in Sweden. Their lending process strongly emphasizes customer relationships and individual risk assessment, making them well-suited to address the unique challenges and opportunities that exist within their customer segments. The processes of the different actors are also very similar. Their flexibility and focus on personal relationships allow them to effectively balance risk and opportunity, contributing to both their own and their clients' success.
