Kost- och motionsvanors betydelse vid Diabetes Mellitus : En litteraturstudie

The aim of this study was to describe the importance of diet and physical activity related to Diabetes Mellitus (diabetes). Method used was a descriptive literature study based on empirical studies. The study shows that diet, physical activity and lifestyle-changes are very important factors when it comes to preventing and treating of diabetes. By the right diet and physical activity the treatment with medications in some cases can be superfluous and people with the disease could live longer and be healthier during their lifetime. Nurses have the responsibility to educate, inform and make sure that the diabetic patient gets the best care as possible specially suited for this individual patient. Several studies show that obesity and overweight is one of the biggest reasons of diabetes. To decelerate the dramatic rise of diabetes, preventive information-arrangements have to reach out to the world. The development with more sedentary work, TV-watching and fast-food is something that makes more people all over the world become ill. Also factors like tobacco and alcoholics have negative impact. There is a great need of information. With information, that people easily exaggerate themselves, can the issue with the growing disease lessen. People need to know how they can change their lifestyle, what kind of help is available and where the help can be reached. People may be in need of support and important is that the information reaches them in the right way. The study shows that the nurse has a very important role in the treating and preventing of diabetes, since he/she gets a close contact to the patients.
