Glaukom är en kronisk ögonsjukdom och är den vanligaste orsaken till blindhet bland barn. Hela familjen drabbas när ett barn insjuknar i glaukom. Syftet med studien var att belysa vad det innebär för familjen när ett barn drabbas av glaukom. Denna integrativa litteraturstudie visade att det fanns behov av ökad kunskap angående varför det är viktigt att följa givna ordinationer angående medicinering. Men även orsaker till nedsatt syn och betydelsen av att skaffa rätt synhjälpmedel till dessa barn. Det fanns olika uppfattningar hos föräldrarna och barnen angående barnets livskvalitet, där föräldrarna upplevde att barnet hade sämre livskvalitet än barnet självt. En rad känslor som oro och rädsla, både hos det drabbade barnet och övriga familjen framkom. Ögonsjuksköterskan har en viktig roll att stödja hela familjen och det är därför viktigt att hen har kunskap om denna sjukdom. Det finns begränsat med forskning kring detta viktiga ämne och mer forskning behövs. En intervjustudie med dessa barn och deras föräldrar för att kartlägga hur de upplever vården i Sverige hade varit av intresse för att med utgångspunkt från det utveckla vården gällande denna patientkategori. / Glaucoma is a chronical eye condition, the most common cause of blindness amongst children and the whole family is affected when a child develops glaucoma. The purpose of this study was to highlight everyday experiences in families where a child has glaucoma. This integrative literature study showed that there is a requirement to improve our knowledge regarding the causes of reduced eye sight, the importance of following prescribed medication, and the effect of correct visual aids for these children. There was a difference in opinion between parents and child regarding the child’s quality of life; the parents experienced that the child had a lower quality of life than what the child actually experienced. A number of feelings, such as anxiety and fear, were experienced by both the child suffering from glaucoma and the rest of the family. The ophtalmic nurse has an important role to provide support for the whole family and it is therefore crucial that the nurse has sufficient knowledge about this condition. There is limited research into this important subject and more is required. An interview study with children and parents to identify how they experience the care in Sweden would be interesting and from that point of view develop the care of that group of patients.
