惠普科技在台灣與大陸佈局分析 / When Thomas Friedman wrote the book title “The World is Flat”, it soon became the world number 1 best seller since the book vividly outlines some of the most important facts on globalization effort that influenced the corporate operation and impacts to our daily life.

When a multi-international PC maker company such as IBM starts to establish their software design center in India, there are also growing concerns of anxiety and fear from employees on job insecurity outside of US. Dell also sets up their manufacturing hub in Malaysia which executes effectively to win the local market share ever since it started to operate, while HP also established Taiwan Design Center (TDC) in year 2002. The progression of engineering resources transition outside of US is becoming a gradual trend and R&D resources development is now focusing at Asia pacific countries particularly in Taiwan and China.

Literature such as “Globalization of Corporate R&D – Implication for innovation systems in host countries” by P. Reddy” outlines the importance of the transition from historical and transactional corporate (TNC’s) prospective. However, this research is intent to analysis the practical process in detail based HP TDC success and formulates the “R&D Globalization” model which then justifies why companies are eager to have their design center setup in Taiwan or China then concludes with impacts on R&D resources availability in years to come.
