This thesis investigates the role that a small German corpus may play in the teaching and learning of German grammar. Explicit grammar teaching has been a controversial issue not only in second language acquisition research, but also in language policies that have affected the school curriculum, subsequent examinations and language teaching materials. Corpora have played a role in language teaching in recent years. mainly in the form of a data-driven approach or analysis of learner corpora. Using a corpus to teach explicit metalinguistic knowledge to improve students' accuracy in language tasks is novel. In this study, a corpus comprising mainly articles of German newspapers and magazines was compiled with the purpose of teaching explicit German grammar.
