The creation of a microcirculation in vitro is essential for vascularisation of artificial skin substitutes, which are increasingly being used in reconstructive surgery. For clinical application, sufficient numbers of proliferative and functional endothelial cells are required. In this thesis, the proliferative capacity of adult and umbilical cord blood endothelial colony forming cells was assessed using sequential culture.
