Studies on the carbonylation of glycerol

The carbonylation reaction is an alternative method to transform glycerol into novel derivatives and materials. Using catalytic [RhCl(CO2)2 and BU4N[Ir(CO2Cl2] glycerol and its triacetate-ester triacetin were successfully carb onlyated. The conversion with [RhCl(CO2)2] gave various carboxylic acid like buteonic acid, critonic acid, butyric acid and iso-butyric acid and also allylacetate, allyiodide, iso-propylacetate and iso-propyliodide.
