SUMMARY Tatjana Komskienė. Personal and Social-Psychological Adjustment of Gifted Children. Lithuanian University of Agriculture, Departament of Proffesional Pedagogy and Psychology, Kaunas 2006, Research adviser dr. R.Adamonienė. In this work we analyse the specific features of personal and social-psychological adjustment of gifted children, the main factors that influence efficiency of this process, define the role of family, school and society in it and suggest some practical advices for parents and teachers. There are two opposite opinions about the efficiency of adjustment of gifted children. Some authors assert, that they are better adjusted in comparison with general population. The others argue and affirm, that they experience more adjustment problems than their peers. The most important factors facilitating the process of adjustment are: high intelectual ability, good self-control, highly developed interpersonal or intrapersonal intelligence and supporting home atmosphare. The main factors, that may cause failures in the process of adjustment are: inadequacy between social, intelectual and emotional development, lack of social competence, the hostility of social environment and negative self-image. The main task of parents, school and society is to create opportunities and better conditions for revealing their abilities and helping them in the succesfull process of adjustment.
