ATT VÅRDAS PÅ EN AKUTMOTTAGNING : En litteraturstudie ur ett patientperspektiv

Background: In Sweden, many patients seek emergency care and nurses in the emergency department therefore need to consider several aspects during their work to meet the patients' needs. At the same time, nurses feel understaffed with too much work responsibility, which contributes to increased stress among them. There is a risk that the patient's care needs and relationships between the nurse and the patient are therefore neglected in the care. Aim: To describe patients' experiences of care in an emergency department. Method: A systematic literature study with descriptive synthesis of 12 qualitative articles. Result: Two themes with 5 subthemes. First theme: To be seen as a unique person with subthemes; To be confirmed for their needs and That meaningful communication creates well-being. Second theme: Being in the dark due to poor care with subthemes; That long waiting times create discomfort, Feeling dissatisfied with a lack of care and Feeling vulnerable during the care period. Conclusion: The result indicates mixed experiences in the patients who were cared for in an emergency department. To promote patients' well-being, an important interaction was that nurses care was based on a good treatment and took the time to talk to the patients. However, negative experiences from the patients were described where long waiting times and the lack of communication were recurring problems that caused unnecessary suffering.
