It is the aim of the thesis to investigate the last 12 boys who were enrolled at the school of Gustafsberg during the last year of school activities in 1920 1924. This is done by doing a case study and examining the social background and position of the last 12 boys before they were enrolled in the children's house school. Further, the study investigates the study context that the boys came to meet during their years as students at Gustafsberg school. The thesis primarily uses source material from the Gustafsberg Foundation's archives. These are documentation concerning students' application letters and documentation relating to the reorganization and syllabuses of school operation. The theoretical framework applied in the thesis is inspired by the framework theory of Urban Dahllöf and Ulf P. Lundgren and is used to illustrate structures and changes. The last 12 boys came from families without means and had aptitude for studies and completed 4 years at the children's house school, and then obtained a real degree in Uddevalla real school. The Gustafsberg school and its operation was in flux during the 20th century, when the teaching of the boys for many years was substandard compared to the outside public school. The school received many proposals in terms of reorganization in order to be better adapted and thus create better educational conditions for the boys.
