Previous issue date: 2016 / Os filmes de home front são parte importante da cinematografia hollywoodiana produzida durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial. Embora sejam obras ficcionais, tinham um objetivo prático bem definido: auxiliar na mobilização da população civil estadunidense para o esforço doméstico de guerra. Para tanto, tais títulos fundamentavam-se na narrativa clássica hollywoodiana, no star system e, em grande medida, na representação entusiástica de uma classe média patriótica e engajada na luta contra o Eixo. A proposta desta tese é avaliar o impacto de alguns exemplares dessa filmografia no Rio de Janeiro, entre os anos de 1942 e 1945, concentrando nossos esforços na recepção dos mesmos pela imprensa carioca. Nesse sentido, defendemos que os filmes de home front tiveram um papel importante no desenvolvimento das ações da Política de Boa Vizinhança, contribuindo para difundir o American way of life em território nacional, bem como, buscando fomentar a mobilização do esforço de guerra no Brasil. Para tanto, procuraremos articular o impacto de tais filmes levando em consideração o papel do Brasil nos projetos de defesa e mobilização econômica dos Aliados e, em especial, o relacionamento com os Estados Unidos.<br> / Abstract : The home front movies are an important part of the Hollywood motion pictures produced during World War II. Although fictional works, they had a well-defined practical goal: to assist in mobilizing the American civilian population for the domestic war effort. Therefore, such films were based on the classical Hollywood narrative, the star system and, to a large extent, a enthusiastic representation of a middle class that was both patriotic and engaged in the fight against the Axis. The purpose of this thesis is to evaluate the impact of some examples of this filmography in Rio de Janeiro, between 1942 and 1945, focusing our efforts on two key elements: the appropriation of these productions by the Getúlio Vargas? government; and the reception given by the carioca press. Furthermore, we argue that the home front movies played an important role in the development of the programs regarding the Good Neighbor Policy, contributing to spread the American way of life, as well as fostering thw war effort mobilization in Brazil. Therefore, we will articulate the impact of such films considering the role of Brazil in the Allies' defense and economic mobilization projects, and, in particular, its' relationship with the United States.
