Uma comunidade de segurança é um padrão de relacionamento pacífico entre Estados alcançado por meio da integração regional. Estados-membros dessa comunidade não considerariam hipóteses de guerra entre si. Estudam-se as relações do Brasil com o Chile e com a Venezuela, o processo de construção da América do Sul e dinâmicas de segurança regional com vistas a saber se há condições para o desenvolvimento de comunidades de segurança no subcontinente. Conclui-se que há condições para tanto nas relações entre o Brasil e o Chile, mas não entre o Brasil e a Venezuela. _____________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / The present study analyzes integration and security in South America based on the concept of security community. A security community is a peacefull pattern of relationship among States reached through integration. Member States within this community would not consider going to war against each other. The relationship of Brazil with Chile and Venezuela, the creation of South America and the regional security dynamics are studied in order to know if there are conditions for developing security communities in the region. This study concludes that there are such conditions in the relation between Brazil and Chile, but not between Brazil and Venezuela.
