Este trabalho tem como objetivos discutir questões relacionadas à formação do professor e ao ensino de funções no Ensino Médio, que respondam à questão: Quais aspectos da história do conceito de funções podem contribuir para a compreensão desse conceito e das suas representações por diagramas, linguagem algébrica e gráficos cartesianos? É uma pesquisa bibliográfica na qual tomamos como base os materiais disponibilizados nas escolas públicas paulistas como, documentos de orientações oficiais e livros didáticos, e a contribuição de autores como Boyer (1974), Caraça (1984) e Courant e Robbins (2000) para entender a história desse conceito até sua formalização e compor uma Unidade de Ensino que possibilite ao professor (a) propor um trabalho com exemplos do cotidiano que mostrem claramente a relação de dependência entre duas variáveis, isto é, quais são as ideias iniciais do conceito de funções (b) entender como explicitar a lei que define uma função em uma relação que antecede a linguagem algébrica, (c) relacionar os itens anteriores com o conceito formal de funções, (d) propor o estudo dos gráficos de funções à identificação do domínio, contradomínio e imagem (e) relacionar as diversas representações de função mantendo a identidade dos elementos fundamentais do conceito de funções: variáveis dependentes e independentes; lei de formação; domínio-contradomínio-imagem; a relação entre as linguagens algébricas e a representação gráfica, por diagramas e gráficos cartesianos. Tal Unidade de Ensino procura enfatizar a importância de um ensino que priorize a articulação entre o conceito de funções e suas diversas representações, como forma de aprimorar o processo de ensino e de aprendizagem do conceito de funções. / This paper aims to discuss issues related to teacher education and teaching functions in high school, responding to the question: What aspects of the history functions can contribute to the understanding of their representations by diagrams, algebraic language and Cartesian graphs? It is a literature in which we take as a basis the materials available in the São Paulo public schools as documents of official guidelines and textbooks, and the contribution of authors such as Boyer (1974), Caraça (1984) and Courant and Robbins (2000) to understand the history of this concept to its formalization and compose a Teaching Unit that allows the teacher (a) to propose a work with everyday examples that clearly shows the dependency relationship between two variables, that is, what are the initial ideas of the concept of functions (b) to understand how to explain the law that defines a function in a relationship before the algebraic language, (c) to relate the above items with the formal concept of functions, (d) to propose the study of graphs of functions to the field of identification, range and image (e) to relate the various function representations keeping the identity of the key elements of the concept of functions: independent and dependent variables; law training; domain-range-image; the relationship between languages and algebraic graphing, by diagrams and Cartesian graphs. This Teaching Unit seeks to emphasize the importance of an education that prioritizes the relationship between the concept of functions and their various representations as a way to enhance the teaching and learning of the concept of functions.
